Evan is obsessed

1935 Words
When Evan had returned home, Nia and him settled into the cozy living room, ready for some lighthearted fun. The aroma of delicious Lasagna Riccia being prepared by the chef filled the air, adding to the pleasant ambiance. Nia was sitting on the sofa, while Evan positioned himself on the floor, sitting between her legs. They held gamepads in their hands, engaging in a friendly competition. As they continued playing a racing game, their laughter filled the room. Nia's competitive spirit emerged as she tried to outmaneuver Evan on the virtual track. Nia had taken it upon herself to beat Evan at this particular car racing game. Evan had become the king of the game, and she needed to see him lose. "Oh, you really thought you could beat me at car racing, Nia?" Evan exclaimed with a mischievous smile. "You know how many times we've bet on this game, and I've always come out on top." Rolling her eyes playfully, Nia retorted, "Oh, keep shut. I'm going to show you what I'm capable of!" She clasped her knees around his head, causing him to groan in pain. “Nia, stop it, you're cheating,” Evan said as he tried to wriggle his head free from her leg’s hold. Evan knew Nia’s tactics; it was always the same as before—she would always try to distract him so that he would lose focus on the game. “Come on, Evan, let me win just this once,” she begged desperately. Evan looked up at her, stretching his neck. “What will you give me if I let you win?” “Well,” Nia paused, "what do you want?" Her hand secretly pressed buttons on her pad behind Evan’s gaze. Soon, Evan heard his virtual car crashing. Nia had manipulated him. He simply laughed; Nia didn’t know how to play video games, yet she always wanted to win. As their playful banter continued, the chef entered the living room, interrupting their game. “Dinner is ready,” the chef approached them with a warm smile, bowing his head slightly. Nia and Evan immediately set their competitive spirits aside, getting up from the living room, they made their way to the dining area. Upon entering the dining room, Nia's eyes widened in awe as she beheld the feast spread out before her. The table was adorned with an array of dishes, each exuding a tantalizing aroma that made her mouth water. Taking her seat at the table, Nia marveled at the sight before her. Unable to contain her excitement, she dug her fork into a piece of Lasagna Riccia and took a bite, her eyes closing in sheer bliss as she moaned at the explosion of flavors in her mouth. As she savored the exquisite taste, Nia looked up at Evan, her eyes filled with a mixture of gratitude and anticipation. "That reminds me, Evan," she said, her voice carrying a hint of seriousness amid the pleasant atmosphere. "There's something I've been wanting to talk to you about." Evan, caught off guard by the sudden shift in tone, set down his utensils and gave her his full attention. "Of course, Nia. What's on your mind?" he asked, a flicker of concern in his eyes. Nia took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts. She wanted to address her curiosity about his wealth, about the luxurious lifestyle he seemed to lead. The gifts, the presence of maids, chefs, and other staff members in his life had sparked her curiosity, and she felt it was time to bring up the topic. "Evan," she began, her voice steady yet filled with genuine curiosity. "I'm very grateful for the gifts you gave me, and I'm grateful for letting me stay here, but I'm just wondering, how come you have so much money? I mean, I know about the Evanalties from your late father's work, but this level of luxury seems beyond that. I hope you don't mind me asking." Evan, taking a moment to process her words, smiled warmly. "Nia, it's family wealth. Everything I have today was passed down to my parents and then to me. Each generation took their time to multiply it for the coming generation, and that's what I'm doing with my tech companies, Nia. You have absolutely no reason to be worried." "Okay, thanks, Evan," Nia smiled. "Also, there's something else." "What's that?" Evan asked curiously, his eyebrows furrowed. "It's about my company. I want to find out what happened at my workplace. I want to investigate, and I've gotten someone to help me." "Oh!" Evan dropped his fork, his eyes widening at her words. "Why do you need to do that, Nia? It could be dangerous." "I have to do it. Besides, there's more reason to investigate. Someone paid off the $100,000 debt, and I have no idea who it was," Nia said while turning her fork in her lasagna. As Nia's words hung in the air, a sudden change came over Evan's demeanor. His eyes widened for a brief moment, and he froze, as if time had momentarily stood still. Nia watched intently, her curiosity piqued by his reaction. Something seemed amiss, something had struck a nerve within him. Just as the silence grew palpable, Evan's phone erupted into a shrill ring. The sound pierced through the room, demanding his attention. With a swift movement, he reached out and snatched his phone from the table, his eyes fixated on the caller ID. The name that flashed on the screen seemed to have ignited a storm of emotions within him. A mix of frustration and annoyance etched across his face as he hissed under his breath. In that moment, the jovial and carefree Evan seemed to have vanished, replaced by someone burdened with unseen troubles. Without uttering a word, he rose from his seat and walked briskly towards a corner of the room. Nia's gaze followed him, a knot of concern forming in the pit of her stomach. She couldn't help but wonder about the nature of the call that had evoked such a strong reaction in him. Her mind raced with a torrent of questions, each one vying for her attention. What could be the source of his frustration? Who was on the other end of the line? As she observed Evan engage in a hushed conversation, her thoughts drifted back to the enigma that surrounded him. There were moments when she had caught glimpses of his secrets, hints of a hidden world that lay beyond the surface. His wealth, the extravagant lifestyle, the frequent unwanted phone calls—each piece of the puzzle added to her curiosity. As Evan spoke on the phone, Nia couldn't help but feel a pang of curiosity. In the midst of her swirling thoughts, her phone chimed. She glanced down at her phone and saw an i********: message notification from Ryan. A smile tugged at the corners of her lips, momentarily distracting her from the mysteries surrounding Evan. Curiosity getting the better of her, she opened the message eager to read what he had to say. "Hey, Kotik," Ryan greeted her with his signature charm and emoji. Nia raised an eyebrow, amused by the unfamiliar term. "Kotik?" she typed back, a playful tone lacing her words. Ryan quickly replied, "Yes, it means 'kitten' in Russian. I thought it suited you." Nia couldn't help but chuckle at his clever choice of words. "Well, I'll take that as a compliment then," she replied, her smile growing wider. "So, how was your day?" Ryan asked. "It was okay, nothing peculiar, just at home trying out some beauty products my friend gave me." "Beauty products?" Ryan typed back. "Aren't you already beautiful enough?" He added a winking emoji. Nia rolled her eyes playfully as she read his cheesy text. "Do you flirt with every woman like this?" "No, just you, Kotik," Ryan replied, his words dripping with playful affection. Nia felt her heart flutter at his sweet words. She couldn't help but find his attention and charm endearing. "Lol, does this line usually work on other women?" Nia typed, a teasing tone in her message. "Why do you assume there are other women, Nia?" Ryan sent an emoji of frustration. "It's you I want. Will you go on a date with me, please?" "It depends," Nia responded. "Is it a casual date or something more serious?" "It's whatever you want it to be, Kotik," Ryan replied, leaving the decision in her hands. "I want it to be casual," Nia typed. "I'm not ready for anything too serious right now." Ryan felt a pang of hurt at her response. He had hoped for something more, but he decided to respect her wishes. "Why casual?" Ryan asked, curiosity evident in his words. "Because that's what I'm comfortable with at the moment," Nia replied, honesty resonating in her message. "I hope you understand." There was a pause as Ryan processed her words, but soon he typed his response. "Alright then. How about another video to brighten up your night?" Nia chuckled, a playful glint in her eyes. "No, why would I want that?" "Because I know you're attracted to me," Ryan replied confidently, attaching a video file to his message. Nia couldn't help but roll her eyes at his audacity, yet a part of her was intrigued. She clicked on the video file and watched as Ryan slowly danced to a catchy tune, his shirtless form exuding confidence and charm. A mischievous wink at the end of the video left Nia feeling a surge of warmth. She found herself smiling sheepishly as she rewatched the video over and over again, momentarily forgetting the tension in the room and the unanswered questions surrounding Evan. While she kept chatting and giggling with Ryan, Evan stormed into the room, his eyes bloodshot with anger. He immediately noticed Nia smiling at her phone, not registering his presence. She continued her interaction with Ryan. "Who is this?" Evan bellowed, snatching Nia's phone from her hand. His knuckles turned white as he gripped the phone tightly with fury. The screen displayed messages with Ryan that fueled his boiling anger. Nia's eyes widened, shock etching across her face. She couldn't believe the sudden change in Evan's demeanor. Fear mingled with her hurt, and she mustered the strength to defend herself. "Evan, calm down! It's just a guy I met on i********:. We've been chatting, that's all," she pleaded, her voice trembling with a mix of frustration and vulnerability. Evan's face contorted with disbelief, his rage seeping into every word he uttered. "Chatting? This is more than chatting, Nia!" he roared, his voice reverberating through the room. "He's sending you seductive videos, and yet you sit there with that smile on your face like a damn b***h!" Nia's eyes widened in shock at the venom in his words. The sting of his insult reverberated through her, fueling her own anger. She stood her ground, her voice laced with defiance. "You can't talk to me like that, Evan!" she shot back, her voice quivering with a mix of anger and hurt. "Oh, really?" Evan sneered, his eyes blazing with resentment. "You can get all cozy with a man you barely know, but I can't speak my mind?" Confusion and hurt washed over Nia as she tried to make sense of the situation. Evan's sudden outburst felt like a betrayal, and the sting of his words lingered. Before she could voice her thoughts, Evan threw her phone at her with a forceful motion and stormed out of the room, leaving her alone and bewildered.
