Evan drove to Nia's place, his face etched with concern. She had left the party in anger, ignoring his calls, and he couldn't bear the thought of her being upset with him. As he arrived in front of her house, he widened his eyes at the sight before him. Ryan stood there, talking to Nia, drawing her closer with every word. Evan stayed in a corner, hidden from their view, watching the scene unfold. Jealousy and frustration surged through him, causing his fists to clench and his teeth to grit. Whispering in his deep, husky voice, Ryan confessed, "I want to see you again, Nia," his words filled with intensity. His hands firmly held her waist, holding an undeniable connection that made Evan's heart sink. Evan struggled to contain his emotions as he observed them, his eyes burning with a mix of anger and sadness. He couldn't shake off the creeping feeling of unease witnessing Nia and Ryan together. Their closeness stirred a storm of conflicting emotions within him. Ryan's voice continued to reach Evan's ears, further tightening his grip on his emotions. The scene before him became unbearable. Despite confessing his feelings to Nia repeatedly, she had made it clear that all she wanted from him was friendship. The fact that she let other guys get close to her but never gave him a chance wounded his heart and bruised his ego, and Evan wasn't one who handled rejection well. Every rejection fueled a greater desire to pursue her. Ryan's departure created the opportunity he had been waiting for. Evan made his presence known. He stepped out from the shadows, his eyes locked on Nia. As Evan emerged from the shadows, Nia's expression transformed from surprise to a mix of anger and confusion. She crossed her arms, her voice laced with frustration as she confronted him. "What are you doing here, Evan?" Nia's tone was sharp with irritation as she asked. "You have some nerve showing up at my doorstep after everything you did tonight." Evan's heart sank at Nia's harsh words, but he knew he had to apologize. Taking a deep breath to gather his thoughts, he prepared to speak. However, Nia cut him off before he could utter a word. "I can't believe you," she exclaimed, her voice trembling with anger. "Who do you think you are, trying to control who I talk to? What gives you the right to dictate my interactions with other men?" Nia's unleashed pent-up emotions frustrated Evan even further. He desperately tried to interject and explain his intentions, but each time he opened his mouth, Nia's words drowned him out. "You ruined my evening," Nia continued, her voice filled with hurt and resentment. "Earlier, you pulled me away from Ryan to talk to your uncle about something important, and it turned out to be nothing but casual greetings. And then, when I returned, what do I find? You punched a guy who was simply talking to me earlier. What's wrong with you, Evan?" Nia's accusations hit Evan like a barrage of arrows, clenching his jaw in response. He wanted to defend himself, to explain that he couldn't stand it when another man was with her. Each time he saw her happy and talking with any man, his heart sank, and his blood boiled. "Nia, please," Evan finally managed to interject, his voice tinged with frustration. "Let me explain." But Nia wasn't willing to listen. Her emotions were running high, and she continued to vent her frustrations, her words cutting through the air. "I trusted you, Evan," she cried, her voice quivering with a mix of disappointment and disbelief. "I thought you were my friend, someone I could rely on. But you’re too controlling, and you’re always acting possessive. If you’ll continue like this then I can't have that in my life." Nia's words echoed in Evan's ears, shattering his heart. He couldn’t control his jealousy and insecurities. The thought of her being close to other men was unbearable. She was only supposed to look at him; he wanted her just for himself. Knowing she was denying him access to her only made him want her more. He would do anything to have her. "Nia, I'm sorry," Evan managed to say. "I never meant to hurt you or control your choices. I let my emotions cloud my judgment.” But Nia turned away, her eyes brimming with tears, her voice filled with a mixture of hurt and resolve. "I don’t think I know who you are anymore," she said, her words heavy with finality. "I need to figure if we can still be best friends." Ryan Lucas sat at his mahogany desk, his mind consumed by continual thoughts of his mate. Ever since their last meeting, he couldn't shake the nagging question of her innocence from his thoughts. Ryan just couldn’t imagine that his mate would be a thief, the moon goddess couldn’t be that cruel. Determined to clear his mind he firmly grasped the sleek receiver of his desk phone to make a call to Nia's workplace. With a furrowed brow and a determined expression etched on his face, Ryan dialed the number, hoping to gain clarity on the case. His heart needed to know the truth. After a few prolonged rings, a poised and professional voice answered the call. "Good morning, Evergreen Investment Services. How may I assist you?" the secretary's voice resonated through the line. Ryan's voice exuded a mix of curiosity and concern as he introduced himself, "This is Ryan Lucas. I would like to speak with someone regarding the embezzlement case involving Nia Addams." The secretary, sensing the gravity of the situation and knowing that Mr. Lucas was an important shareholder in the company, quickly assured him that she would promptly transfer the call to Mr. Thompson, the esteemed head of investigations. As Ryan waited, his mind wandered, filled with a swirl of thoughts and emotions. He couldn't help but wonder if his growing feelings for his mate was clouding his judgment. Deep down, he knew he needed concrete evidence, proof to support his belief in her innocence. Finally, the distinguished voice of Mr. Thompson resonated through the line, shattering Ryan's thoughts and grounding him back to the present moment. "This is Mr. Thompson. How can I assist you, Mr. Lucas?" Mr. Thompson inquired with a measured tone. Heart pounding with a mix of anticipation and uncertainty, Ryan gathered his thoughts before speaking. "Mr. Thompson, I'm calling about the embezzlement case involving Nia Addams. I've been reflecting on the situation, and I need to know if there have been any recent developments or evidence that may suggest someone else as the true culprit." There was a short pause as Mr. Thompson took in the weight of Ryan's words. With a measured tone, he proceeded to share a surprising revelation. Nia had made a payment of the entire 10 million US dollars she was accused of embezzling. The funds had been meticulously returned to the company's accounts through a wire transfer initiated by Nia herself. "She paid back the entire amount? But how?" Ryan exclaimed, his mind racing to make sense of this unexpected turn of events. Mr. Thompson, maintaining his professional demeanor, confirmed the astonishing truth. "Yes, it is quite unexpected. We are currently investigating the legitimacy of the transaction." Ryan's mind whirled with conflicting thoughts and emotions. His mate’s actions added a profound layer of complexity to the case. Could she truly be guilty, as the accusations had initially suggested? The fact that she had taken the initiative to repay the embezzled funds left Ryan questioning his previous assumptions of her innocence. His heart and mind were locked in a fierce battle between doubt and belief. "Thank you for sharing this information, Mr. Thompson. Please keep me updated on any further progress in the investigation," Ryan requested, his determination to uncover the truth growing stronger. "Certainly, Mr. Lucas. We will continue our efforts and keep you informed," Mr. Thompson assured him with a reassuring tone. As Ryan concluded the call, a whirlwind of intrigue and doubt filled his thoughts. Nia's unexpected repayment of the embezzled funds had shifted his perspective. Leaning back in his comfortable leather he pondered several possibilities, and couldn't help but question whether his mate was truly guilty
