CHAPTER 8

CHAPTER 8 HEAVEN I wanted to hit that ugly face of hers so bad. I wanted to slap the nighttime out of her but I had to contain myself. I had to stop myself from losing my temper to that extent because we were in a public place. Literally, we ruined the gala already. All eyes were now fixed on us and I knew indulging Amanda would cause another chaos and in no time, rumours would start flying around. I can imagine the contents being Bellmore's ex-wife and long time fianceé fighting over him at that gala. I didn't want anything that would ruin my delicate image. For someone with my surname and reputation , fighting in public didn't speak well of me. I wanted to be the one with the upper hand this time. I wanted to be the one controlling everything. Instead of reacting according to my emotions , I erupted into laughter. I laughed in her face and she stared at me with her brows furrowed in confusion. Of course, she didn't expect that. She was clearly ready to fight me but I wouldn't give her that satisfaction. A couple of seconds later, I cleared my throat and looked straight into her eyes with a smirk at the corner of my lips. "Fascinating. The force of that slap suggests a significant amount of built-up tension. Tell me, what's been bothering you lately? Have you been thinking about this moment forever?" She gripped the other wine glass tightly, obviously pouring her anger into it with her eyes blazing with unspoken rage. "Or has Atlas been ignoring you ever since we met again? Has he realised you can never compare to me no matter what you do? No wonder you've only remained his fianceé for over five years now? Are you...." Before I could complete my sentence, I felt a strong arm circle me, causing me to jolt. "Are you okay?" I heard that stupid familiar voice question as he looked down at me, his hand on my head. I pushed him off me that instant and realised he had protected me from a wine splash from Amanda. Gosh! He just had to make the whole thing more dramatic. Did I ask for his fake protection? His fiancée's eyes popped as her mouth opened in shock but it soon turned to a twisted face. "What are you doing, Atlas?" She shouted, but he ignored her and turned to me. As he opened his mouth to talk, I walked off. I had nothing to say to him. I wasn't about to become the talk of the town tomorrow. Actually, it was pretty obvious that this happening will probably be tomorrow's headline, but I wasn't about to give them more to say or cover so, I walked away from that situation but persistent Atlas didn't. He trailed after me while calling my name but I didn't bother glancing at him or talking to him. Can't he just get a hint? Shouldn't he be more worried about his court case or stay with his fiancée. Why must he continue creating a scene? I increased my pace and hurried out of the hall hoping Amanda already dragged him off or stopped him. But as I stopped in a quiet place and let out a sigh of relief, Atlas just had to ruin the moment again. "Heaven," he called. I drew in a deep breath before turning to him. "Are you a stalker now?" I shouted. Gosh! I couldn't control my anger anymore. Just why the hell can't he leave me alone? Why was he acting all caring now when he didn't show me any care or respect when things ended between us years ago? He shook his head. "I want to apologise for Amanda's behaviour at the event," he replied and I rolled my eyes. Was he trying to rub it on my face that they were good or what? "Fine. Since you've done that, can you just leave me be?" I scowled at him but instead, he stepped closer to me and grabbed my hand before I could blink. "Let go of me!" I screamed and in a split second, his hand was yanked off me. I turned to see him losing his balance and almost falling to the ground while Oliver stood beside me. "Are you okay, Heaven?" He inquired with concern dripping from his tone and I bobbed my head. I didn't need any heroes. I mean, I wasn't even in that sort of danger, but I could always use this situation to my advantage. "The f**k!" Atlas shouted and before I knew it, his fists crashed into Oliver's jaw, and he stumbled back, losing his balance. My eyes widened in disbelief at what just happened. I never expected Atlas to react that way and punch Oliver so hard that his foot slipped on the smooth tile of the balcony as his body tilted dangerously, and before he could catch himself, the back of his head slammed against the sharp edge of the railing. "What did you just do?" I shouted at Atlas before hitting his chest with my purse, but he didn't react to my voice, instead, his eyes stretched wide in horror. I scrunched my brows wondering what was wrong with him but then he pointed towards Oliver's direction only for me to see him on the floor with his eyes closed. Motionless. Unconscious. “Oliver—” My voice broke off as my heart started pounding in my chest. Everything had happened so fast that I missed his falling to the floor. I knew he lost his balance earlier but not to the point of... “Oliver?” I dropped to my knees beside him, my hands shaking as I reached out only for me to feel something warm in my hand. Blood. There was no response from him. Atlas took a step back, his breath uneven. “I—” His voice barely came out. There was blood. Too much of it, pooling beneath his head. Oh no! This can be happening. "What did you do to him?" I yelled, my voice shaking, and Atlas rushed towards me. I pressed my trembling fingers to his neck, my own heartbeat was so loud I couldn’t tell if I felt anything at all. “Please,” I whispered. “Wake up.” Nothing. Was he dead? "Call the ambulance!" I screamed and Atlas quickly fumbled through his pockets for his phone . Then— Footsteps. Someone was approaching fast. And before I could react, the camera flashed in my eyes.
