Nylah POV “How does it even work?” Nylah asked Chaz as she was studying the shrunken black brick-looking thing in her hands. Harper only had an old phone at her bakery, which she rarely answered. This little thin thing in her hands was something else. “You’ve never had one before?” Chaz asked with sympathy in his voice. “It wasn’t given to us at the orphanage and I have never needed one before.” Nylah shrugged her shoulders. “Well, firstly, it needs to be charged. Then I will explain everything to you.” Chaz said and took the brick from Nylah’s hands along with the remainder of the box she had just opened. “How much do I owe you?” Nylah asked as he was unpacking the box and putting the brick into a cord to ‘get charged’. “Nothing but all the juicy details from your first 50 dates!” He smiled at her with that wink of his, that was starting to annoy her. She was definitely starting to associate it with trouble. “What are juicy details exactly? Are we going out for juice?” she asked in small confusion. “Oh you sweet, sweet thing!” Chaz just answered, without giving any further explanation. “We don’t have to drink juice every time we see him, right?” Acallia asked in her mind. “I don’t think so. It is probably just some slang for something” Nylah replied to her wolf. “But we are not going on 50 dates!” She added. “Maybe it would be fun!” Acallia argued. “I like his smell and his boldness. We could use a break from baking and walking those domesticated weak wolf wannabes.” “Domesticated wolf wannabes? Really Acallia? You mean the dogs?” Nylah giggled. Yeah, those. The little yapping creatures.” “Let’s just start with one date though and see if it is something for us. We are not old enough to find our mate yet, and I am not really interested in spending a lot of time with someone who is not our mate.” Nylah said, and Acallia reluctantly agreed. She did not want to complicate relations with their mate either. "Thank you, Chaz" Nylah told her newest friend, and in return she received the warmest smile she had ever seen. "You are very welcome, Nylah! It is my pleasure!" He answered and gave her a hug. "Let's close the store down for the day, there hasn't been a customer for the last hour." Nylah said, and Chaz nodded. As they had finished packing everything away, counted the money and closed everything up, the phone was fully charged. While they were walking back to Harpers' place, Chaz started to instruct Nylah on how to use the phone on a basic level. "You've already gotten your first text girl!" Chaz excitedly exclaimed. "What? How?" Nylah asked. "Well. I kinda texted that guy who has the hots for you," he said apologetically. "Already? Without telling me?" She asked, eyebrows raised. "Sorry girl, I couldn't help it! This is the most excitement I've had for weeks." Chaz explained with a guilty look on his face. "Let me see," Nylah sighed. The first text, supposedly from herself, read: Hi Matt, thank you for your number. This is Nylah. XO And the next went: Hey beautiful, Thank you for your text! I was hoping to hear from you. How was your day? XO to you too ;) "What is XO?" Nylah asked. "It means hugs and kisses" Chaz winked and Nylah paled. "Why would you do that??" She asked with wide eyes and a light pink shade creeping up on her cheeks. "Don't worry Cutie-pie, it's just a saying, like a cute way of saying "bye or see you"" he replied. "No harm done, he liked it" he added with yet another wink. "Hmm.. I'm not sure I like it though.." Nylah said. "Alright. Making him work for it will most likely work too." Chaz smirked. ”So what’s next?” She asked, staring at the screen. “You answer him, of course.” Chaz laughed at the helpless girl at his side. It was a day as any other She texted back. Chaz looked over her shoulder and couldn’t help but to comment: “Sweety.. That is just such a grey answer” He said, while trying not to hurt her feelings too much. “You need to be a little more colorful. More exciting. And you need to converse with him as well. Ask him back about his day. Small talk, you know?” He tried to explain. “Small talk? No, I don’t know what that is, he doesn’t seem small at all, so what do you mean?” She asked, confused. “Small talk is like asking about your day, talking about the weather or any other light topic. Asking about school or hobbies. That kind of stuff.” He answered. “Oh okay. I can do that.” Nylah said understandingly. What I meant was, it was a fine day. How was yours?” “Like that?” She asked, and Chaz looked at her newest text. “Exactly! You’ve got it now, sweety,” he smiled. My day was fine as well. It would be even better if you will agree to hang out some time? ;) “Oh no, Chaz! What do I do now?” Nylah asked him and showed him the phone again. “You agree!” Maybe some day “That’s a little vague sweety. But you know what? I guess it’s good to play a little hard to get,” Chaz said as they arrived at Harpers’ home. “Do you want to go for a run honey? Casanova can wait for an hour or two.” Chaz asked as they put their bags and jackets away. “I could definitely go for a run!” Nylah gladly replied. “Me too!” Acallia chimed in. _______________________________ Harper POV …”Go!” Haizea immediately got up from the bench and started to walk comfortably towards a pair of trees while glaring at Harper. “You’re doing fine, little one! Just keep going,” Harper encouraged her sibling, while following right behind her. As soon as the girl got behind the first tree, she looked back at Harper who gave her a silent, barely noticeable nod. And then the girl started sprinting in the direction of her home. Harper watched the little girl run off and checked around her to make sure no one saw. Not a single soul seemed to be paying them any attention, and satisfied with that, she too went into a sprint in the same direction as the little girl. They quickly got to the front porch and Harper hurriedly unlocked the door. “We need to pack some of your clothes really quick. If you need anything else, we will have to buy it.” Harper said hectically as soon as they were inside. “There will be no need, my friend.” A male voice was heard from within the house. Startled, Harper prepared herself and shoved Haizea behind her, ready to take a fighting stance. The man, however, walked casually into the hallway with two big suitcases in his hands. “Fionn!” Harper let go of the breath she didn’t know she had been holding. “Relax Harper, I got your back,” The man smiled at her, and she went to him and hugged him. Her warlock friend from her dinner party had anticipated things would turn south for the siblings and used his spare key to their family home and packed everything that seemed important or useful to the girls. “I believe you should hide somewhere for the next month or so before going back home.” He told them. “They will come looking for you as soon as they realize you two have vanished. I have made arrangements for you with Evangeline. You will be on the run while accompanying her on her travels.” He continued, and Harper nodded as realization dawned on her. They wouldn’t just leave them alone at her home. “I have transferred a good amount of money into a new account, you will find credit cards, money, passports, driver’s license and so on in this purse.” He said as he handed her a purse. “You can pay me back when this has all calmed down,” he told her, when she was starting to protest. “Come with me quickly now, before someone shows up here.” The man ended and Harper quickly used a shrinking spell on the remaining suitcases, along with the one full of Haizeas’ toys, and shoved them into her pockets with the other ones. Then the three of them hurried away to get to the portals. “We will use the portals and transport us to Seattle. From there you two will get on a plane to New York where you will meet up with Evangeline. For your safety, I don’t know where you will be going from there.” Fionn told Harper on their way to the portals. Harper just nodded, a little baffled by the unexpected help from her friend. Only one guard had been posted at the portal area, and he didn’t pay much attention to them. He could feel in their auras they were from the coven, and that meant they were welcome to come and go as they pleased. Because of this, they were able to quickly find a portal and teleport to a park in Seattle. “Thank you so much for your help, Fionn!” Harper started, almost tearing up a bit. “That’s what friends are for, right?” He answered with a crooked smile. “Indeed,” Harper smiled back and hugged her friend once again. “Grab my hand, Haizea and let’s go get a cap to the airport.” She told her sister. ”It will be like a vacation, don’t worry little one,” She further encouraged her sister, who seemed to relax from hearing those words. “Good luck!” Fionn called after them, and started to walk in the other direction, just in case someone were to follow their magical trail. Then he opened another portal and jumped a bit around from place to place in the city, before returning to the coven, to find out what had been happening while they were gone.
