The news about the supposed merger had spread so far, that there was a lot of hush talk, and suspicions as to who and how many employees would be laid off. Maya wasn’t bothered, because she already knew her fate.
She had to find a job soon, and quit before they terminated her employment. Walking out as the employee who gave up on the company, rather than the first one to be given the boot was her aim.
It also turned out that Will was a kind person, and also wealthy, courtesy of his father’s occupation and old money. So, he got her a place to stay until she was ready to move out. That was one thing checked off her list.
