“Of course they do. It’s the only way I can make senior partner. And,” Vanessa stood up. “I don’t remember forcing you to be my fiancé. I asked, I begged and you took one look at a woman that needed your help, and you helped her. It’s not my fault you can’t think for yourself or make your own decisions.” She sat back down. “You were always like this,” Brogan realized. “I don’t know why I entertained the thought of you being a little different, because Maya turned out better. You were terrible in high school, and you’re still the same person. Just better at hiding your true colors.” Vanessa laughed. “Now, you care? You knew I went to the same high school as Maya and yourself. You knew it when I told you that it was best to transfer her, if you could not keep her as your secretary.
