FIFTY-TWO Colin watched Chaise take a wide route across to the far side of the heath, moving stealthily from one outcrop to the next before dropping out of sight completely. The man knew what to do, old skills never far away. Colin had watched him with Mikhail’s father, knew his capabilities, his single-mindedness. Few people had the means, or the desire, to deal out death with such precision. Chaise had such capacity. Even when confronted with someone as massive as Mikhail, he’d never given up; despite being battered and bloodied, the determination to kill remained.
