A Slap

Ava’s point of view “Ava… “Lily walked over to me, tears streaming down her cheeks. “Please sell your violin to us, we are willing to pay any price, just tell me how much you want. It is important to me.” Her voice was tearful as she begged. I couldn't help but scoff. She was using her cards perfectly well, but unfortunately, I'm not falling for her fake tears. She can fool Julian with them. “And why should I even do that?” I retorted impatiently. I did not have time for this nonsense, and being in the same room as Julian wasn't helping me either. Lily stared down at her hands, tears streaming down her face. “You see, Julian and I fell in love because of music,” she stammered. I could feel my chest tightening at her words. “I have only a few months left to live, and I'm truly hoping to hold a concert before I leave this world. I want us to relive our blissful memories.” My hand balled into a fist, my heart was pounding so hard in my chest, and bitterness rose to my throat, tightening around my throat. It took everything to keep my emotions under control. “Oh, poor woman. I truly feel sorry for you,” my words were dripping with sarcasm. “But here is the reality check, my dear. People die every day, and new people are brought into this world. You are not the first person to die or be ill. In the end, we are all going to die, and it's not my fault that your time came too early. I don't even care if you die. There are millions of sick people in the world, and that's not my fault either. I'm not going to tolerate and accommodate every sick person who comes my way.” Lily burst into sobs. I couldn't react when I felt a palm connecting with my cheek, a sharp pain cutting through my skin as I stumbled, holding my cheek. For a second, I thought I was going to fall, but I fell into strong arms, preventing me from falling. My eyes stung as I finally realized what just happened. Julian raised his hand to me. He slapped me because of Lily. “Miss Styles, are you alright?” My eyes widened at the sound of the voice. I recognized it from that day. I turned, and my eyes met those piercing blue eyes. For some reason all my emotions were raw as our eyes met as if he could see through me I bit down on my lower lip, trying to blink back my tears, but they fell anyway. I moved away from him, quickly bringing my hand to my face, wiping them away. I turned my attention to Julian, whose face was red with rage. “Is he the reason why you are divorcing me, huh?” He walked over to me, raised his hand to slap me again. I shut my eyes, waiting for the impact, but it didn't come. I opened my eyes to see his hand in the air, grabbed by that guy. “Let go of my hand, you jerk!” Julian's jaws were tense, his words laced with rage. “A true definition of a coward. You raise your hand to a woman, but you can't face your peers,” Sophie couldn't keep her mouth shut. I was too shocked to even react. It's the second time he raised his hand to me, and I couldn't even understand how I was feeling at this point. I could see the corner of Lily’s lips curling into a smirk. She thought no one was watching her, but I saw it. The stranger finally released Julian's hand. He stumbled but gained his balance before he fell to the ground. “Please leave from here before I call the police.” My voice was barely above a whisper, my heart racing against my chest. “Ava, please don't refuse to sell your violin. I truly need it,” Lily was back in her pretending zone, tears streaming down her cheeks. I scoffed. “Aren't you interested in my life a little too much? First, you took my husband, my son, my mother's necklace, and now my violin. What more do you want? You want my soul too? Should I just give it to you and die before you?” I threw her a glare. “Which necklace are you talking about? You mean this one?” She pulled the necklace from her neck, showing it to me. “Julian gave me this necklace for my birthday. I didn't know it was yours. I can give it back if—” I didn't let her finish her sentence. I held my hand up, stopping her. “I don't need it. You can keep it, keep him. I won't take back my vomit.” “I knew you were pathetic, but I didn't expect you to be a w***e with no shame. You don't even pity a dying person,” Julian's eyes were filled with disgust as he glared at me. “You want to divorce me because of him, right? But guess what, I'm not signing those divorce papers. You will come back to me, and I will show you what I'm made of.” He clicked his tongue, holding Lily’s hand. They both stormed out of the music shop, leaving Sophie, the stranger, and me, and of course, the look of everyone who was in the shop. I swallowed, trying to pull myself together. “Thank you for saving me once again.” I turned to the stranger, his hands now in his pocket, his eyes on me for brief moments before he nodded. Without uttering a word, he walked away. “I've recorded everything that has happened. You can use this video as evidence.” I looked at Sophie, a fake smile pasted on my lips. I just didn't feel like myself anymore, and it was all thanks to Julian and his girlfriend. “Thank you, Sophie. You don't know how much I appreciate it.” My voice was barely above a whisper. “Don't take his words to heart, Ava. I told you, right? He's not worth it. The slap he gave you is your ticket out of this toxic marriage. That's why I didn't stop him. The court will rule in your favor.” Sophie explained, but tears were streaming down my face.
