Come Home

Ava’s point of view The first day after leaving felt like my soul was going to leave my body, the pain in my heart was unbearable. The second day, I started making peace with everything I couldn't have and accepted that Julian never loved me. On the third day, I stared at my reflection in the mirror and realized just how beautiful I was to cry over a man who didn't love me. On the fourth day, I started wondering about where my life was going, how I was going to survive and make money. The rest of the week, I taught myself to keep my emotions in check and forget about Julian. It was going to be hard, but I was determined to do it at any cost. “I'm home...” The sound of Sophie's footsteps echoing to the kitchen rang in my ears. I could hear her shuffling the plastic bag on the counter before she started walking to the sitting room. I sank into the couch, my body curled up into a ball, a mug of coffee clenched in my hands, a television flickering in front of me but my attention was far from there. “Hi, Sophie...” I forced a smile, but it barely reached my eyes. She rolled her eyes. “Don't give me that fake smile, Ava.” She kicked the heels of her feet, walking towards me, she settled on the couch next to me. Silence fell inside the sitting room as I sat there, not uttering a word. The truth is I had nothing to say. I never had anything to say even in front of my friend. I've always kept my emotions inside of me. I feel like sharing too much doesn't change anything, but Sophie understands me even when I don't say anything. “Ava, you are my friend, and I love you, okay?” She cleared her throat. “But right now, you look like a zombie. Have you looked at yourself in the mirror?” My brows furrowed. “Sophie, that's so rude of you. I'm going through a heartbreak, and you are mocking me.” I pouted, throwing a disapproving gaze. She shrugged indifferently. “Exactly my point. You are no longer married. Get up, take a bath, and look beautiful. You'd never find true love hiding yourself in this apartment.” I almost poured the coffee in the mug at her, but I ended up throwing her a glare, my expression pinched. “Who said I'm looking for love?” I sat up straight, leaning forward on the coffee table, set the mug on it. My eyes turned back to her. “Ava... You asked for a divorce from Julian, right?” She asked. I nodded, wondering where the conversation was heading. “Listen to me, Ava, you need to make him regret ever treating you like he did, and trust me, no man wants to watch his ex-wife glow and look beautiful. His ego will be shattered, and he will realize what he's lost.” I sighed at her words. “Sophie, please... I'd rather sit here than make Julian jealous, especially when I want nothing to do with him.” It was over between Julian and me, and I didn't want him back in my life. He's made me suffer for a long enough time, and I think I've had it. I'm not interested in any relationship or love back. I was tired. Sophie clicked her tongue. She rose off the couch, and I thought she was heading out, but she grabbed my hand instead , pulling me from the couch. My eyes widened in shock. “Sophie, what are you doing?” I tried to shrug from her grip, but she wasn't planning to let me go. “I'm not going to sit here and watch my friend drown herself in sorrow. You need to take a bath, and we are going out, and I'm definitely not going to take no for an answer.” She kicked the door to my room and dragged me in with her. At least my leg was healed now, or else I could have been in pain. “Sophie, I have no clothes to wear.” I tried to make an excuse. I didn't want to leave or go anywhere. I'd leave once I find a job, but of course, Sophie wasn't going to let me go. “Try another excuse.” She pushed me inside the bathroom. Before I could react, she shut the door and locked it behind me. I exhaled deeply. With no other choice, I removed my clothes and stepped into the shower, letting the warm water run down on me, relaxing my tensed muscles. Finishing showering, I stepped out, a towel wrapped around me. I sighed as I opened the door and found it unlocked. I frowned as my eyes landed on different dresses laid on the bed, heels, handbag, earrings, and necklaces. But one dress caught my eyes. It's a soft blood knee-length dress with little shiny pearls all over it. I grabbed it, running my fingers over its soft fabric. Its color was just what I needed to wear today. I finished putting it on, wore matching heels and silver earrings, walked over to the hairdresser, applied light makeup, completing my look with a soft pink lipstick. Just as I was about to step out of the room, I heard the sound of Sophie shouting from the kitchen. My brows furrowed in confusion. I wondered who had come. As far as I remember, it was just me and her in this apartment. She isn't dating anyone. This apartment belongs to me and her. We split the money to buy it, but the rule was no one was allowed to bring their boyfriend or husband, and I'm sure she wouldn't do it. As I reached the sitting room, I froze as my eyes landed on Julian. Sophie was trying to block him from coming inside from the entrance. “Ava, what the heck is wrong with you? Do you think you can sign the divorce papers and leave just like that? Did I give you the permission to do so?” He yelled, his voice was loud, and my heart started banging against my chest as I stood frozen on the ground. “She doesn't need your permission to sign the divorce papers, okay. Get your ass out of here before I call the police.” Sophie retorted. Julian pushed her aside, he walked over to me, his eyes stern and cold. “You can't just divorce me, Ava. Do you understand? A nobody like you has no right to divorce me. I get to decide if I want a divorce or not. Trust me, I don't enjoy staying with you, but Caleb needs someone to look after him.” He grasped my arms, ready to drag me out of the house, but I didn't move a muscle. Once again, the pain I've been trying to ignore found its way to my heart, shattering it into millions of pieces, his words a sharp dagger. He didn't care if I divorced him or not. He needed a nanny for his son. Julian turned to me, a scoff escaping from his lips. “Ava, you really don't want to piss me off. Do you understand? I don't have time for your petty games. If you want me to beg you, then you have got it all wrong.” He hissed, his voice sharp and stern. “It won't take me a second to destroy you and your little friend. Come home with me, take care of Caleb quietly, and your life will be great. Otherwise...” His stern glare locked with mine.
