Axel slammed the door after him.
The engine roared like a living thing as he wrenched the wheel, the car tearing through the winding roads at a speed that defied reason.
Trees blurred into streaks of shadow, the world outside reduced to a dizzying rush of darkness and cold wind screaming through the cracked windows.
This was the first time Ivy noticed since… was there another accident? Didn't he just get the glass fixed?
Ivy clutched the baby goat to her chest with one arm and held onto the door handle with the other, knuckles white. The world outside was a blur of trees and shadows, the sky streaked with purple dusk. Her heartbeat pounded louder than the engine.
