Evie's POV
"Oh my Gosh!" I smile as I hear my best friend, Nina scream
"My beloved Evie!" There she goes again giving me this breathtaking baby bear hug.
"Ni... Nina! I can't breathe" I tap her back
"Oh I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm just so happy to see you. Look at you!" I smiled at her as she checked out my whole body.
"Are you even growing older at all? You still look the same!" I chuckled at her remarks.
"Ninaaa, may I remind you that you're a year older than me?" She gave me a puppy cute face that makes me laugh. Oh! I miss her! I couldn't help my emotions, I hugged her again.
"It's nice to have you back in New York" I muffled into her shoulder, still hugging her.
By the way, Nina Daniels is my best friend all the way from my childhood days. We've experienced both the bad and the good together while growing up.
She is someone I admire so much. She's blessed with a flawless skin, long wavy hair that never loses it's colour, hazel eyes with the perfect lips. Sometimes I look at her and I wish I had the confidence she has making her look exceptionally beautiful.
She just arrived from Europe a few days back where she works and lives for the past years and I'm so glad we're able to meet.
Minutes passed and I still found myself talking to Nina non stop. I was really engrossed in that which Nina was telling me while we are in a coffee shop having time for a little more chitchat.
She just got back from London. She has been my best friend since high school and to make it short.
We parted ways after we she left for Europe to study in college. I barely made it out of college but I am glad I was able to study my dream course as a fashion designer before everything turned south for me. Nina started to work her dream job as an Architecture while I got married to Adams.
She's been there at my wedding before she flew to Europe to pursue her dream. We both dreamt so big and I'm really happy she was able to fulfil ever of her dreams.
We talked about everything and anything. Her years abroad, her architecture program, her flings . For a while, I totally forgot about everything -- Adams, his coldness and brutal attitude towards me.
Speaking of him my phone vibrated.
"Give me a minute" I said to Nina and she simply nodded as I stood up to receive Adam's call.
"Hello hubby?" I spoke with so much joy in my heart. I couldn't help it though because this is the first time he's ever called me since we got married about 2 years ago and since he's gone for his trip last week.
"Where the hell are you, Evie?!" He shouted over the phone. Every happiness I was feeling immediately goes away.
"I....I came into town to meet a friend of mine" I reluctantly answered. "I don't give a damm about your went into the city to do. Just come home right this minutes because we have a business event to attend to and you need to be ready by 7pm!" He barked out.
"7pm!... That's about 3 hours from now. I... I.. do..nt have a dress to wear" I slowly replied. "I already delivered a package to the house. Wear the dress and at least look presentable and don't f*****g embarrass me! Do you understand?!" He spoke hardly over the phone.
My eyes almost filled with tears. The call ended before I could answer him.
I stared back at Nina, she stared at me, confusion written all over her face. I walked back to my seat but then I was questioned by Nina
“Evie… is everything okay? Who called you?” she asked quietly.
I forced a smile, shaking my head.
"Everything is fine. I just received a call from Adams." I answered her, trying to keep a straight face without tearing up. "There's an event coming up today and it came really late. So I need to prepare". I added, hoping I sounded convincing.
"I'd have loved to help you prepare for this dinner gathering you'll be attending with Adams. But I need to attend to something and it's almost the time. i'm so sorry" she pleaded
"Naaa, it's okay Nina. You need to go. " I assured her.
"Not before I dropped you off" She persisted.
She dropped me off at the estate gate.
"Dress sexy for Mr Adams! I can't wait to hold my little niece/nephew" she winked at me then she drove off.
I laughed, silently wishing my husband will eventually look at me.
I immediately rushed inside to prepare. I've got two hours left. I, took my bath and made sure I rubbed my moisturizer. I rushed to the mirror and dabbed powder onto my dull skin. I did the little makeup I could do, enough makeup to reduce how emotionally tired I look.
I slipped into the silver dress Adams has ordered. It hugged every of my curves and revealed my shape effortlessly. I looked at my reflection and swallowed the lump in my throat; at least I look presentable.
---
Adam came home few minutes to seven; he looked at me without giving a comment. His face held no reactions at all.
We arrived at the party. I stood my Adams side all through and introduced myself when necessary. I made sure I did nothing to provoke him
“Evie?” a familiar voice called. I turned and gasped. It was Mrs Tyler.
“Lucy!” I smiled so hard. My ears grinning from left to right. Right beside her, smiling warmly, was Richard.
“My dear,” she said, pulling me into a soft hug. “You look so beautiful tonight.” No one had told me that in a very long time. I felt shy instantly and lower down my head, blushing real hard.
"Hello Mom. Hello Dad" Adams greeted his parents, hugging his mom and giving a slight nod to his Dad.
"Hello Son. Let's go get a table. The meeting is about to start" Lucy ushered us to a table of 4 at the front, smiling so beautifully.
Few minutes into the meeting, Adam excused himself, saying he had something to attend to so quick. I wondered what was that he needed to attend to so quick. I discarded the whatever unhealthy thought was coming into my mind.
I enjoyed my time with his parents, laughing gently and for the first time in a while, I felt seen. It was comforting.
Halfway through the evening, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach.
"Oh no! It's that time of the month!" I muttered. Panic rose in my chest. I needed to go home immediately before I stained myself in front of everyone and embarrassing Adams.
"Are you okay Evie? You look so pale" Lucy asked me. Worry laced across her face
"I'm fine Lucy. I just need to go home and rest. I feel a little bit under the weather" I softly replied
"Oh, I'm sorry sweetheart." She softly spoke. "Go look for Adams so he can drop you off. Take care darling."
I excused myself and hurried toward the hallway, searching for Adams so we could leave together but he was nowhere in sight. I checked everywhere possible. Nothing. Desperately, I turned toward the restroom area. I called out his name but no response. I was about to leave when I heard loud and shameless moans of a woman coming from one of the bathrooms.
"Oh yes… Adams!” the woman screamed at the top her voice, unmistakably erotic.
"Fuccckkkk!!! I'm about cuming." I heard my husband's raspy voice. Right there, my heart shattered on the spot. I trembled, listening to the sounds of my husband having s*x with another woman in a public restroom! This was what he needed to attend to urgently???
Tears burned down my cheeks as I cried in silence, it feels like my chest was about to explode from the pain I was feeling right now.
I covered my mouth and ran out of the event. I ran till I couldn't feel my legs anymore. I walked all the way back home in tears. I wondered if I ever made a mistake, signing the marriage proposal from The Tyler's. Can my love be enough for the both of us?
