44 Blackness peered back at her as she stood there, frozen and listening. She could hear them, a thousand tiny bodies scurrying up the walls and across the floor and shelves, the sounds of infestation. It made her flesh crawl. She shuddered. The light switch was on the wall to the left. She remembered this, but she also remembered that there was a shelf in front of it that contained paint tins and garden tools. In order to find the light switch, she'd have to pass her hand through the shelf amid all the hidden clatter. She peered down at the aerosol can and then gave it a thorough shake before depressing the button and flicking the cigarette lighter. The walls were suddenly lit with an orange aura and spiders sprang from her immediate vicinity, recoiling into what darkness remained. She
