Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Omniscient King Avery Brocksby watched as his daughter had fun with the General's son. He certainly didn't expect them to run into each other, let alone get along so well. Thinking it might be a very interesting outcome, he quickly makes a note to make arrangements with the General to have his son over as often as possible. The joy on his daughters face was completely worth it. The General will most certainly agree. It may blossom into something more down the line as well. At the very least, they will most likely be loyal friends, which is needed between the future General and the future Queen. Mutual trust and respect can start growing from here on out, and they will work together well when she takes over the crown. King Avery is a very considerate man, he loves his wife, Queen Mabel, and his children, Constance and Giles. Any chance he gets, he is playing or reading to them. He is a very just and noble king, who tries to do his best for his family and for his kingdom. You simply can't have loyal subjects when you rule with an iron fist all the time, that will leave you beheaded or overthrown by the very people you swore to do right by. He has had to make some very tough decisions along the way, but he has always done the best for his people that he could, and it has paid off in the long run. His Kingdom has prospered. Even the poorest of his people do not go without. They have a roof over their heads and their bellies are full. They have jobs and take care of themselves. There is also very little thievery or violence in his Kingdom. It took a long, hard journey to get his Kingdom to where it is today. He overtook the thrown from his father, who did what he could, but made some very bad decisions. This left the people in dire situations. When Avery took over, he began trade with neighboring kingdoms and commissioned repairs to buildings in the Kingdom and its surrounding villages. The people then took it upon themselves to work harder and before he knew it, there was peace and prosperity. One day, it will be Constance's turn to lead their people and take over the crown. King Avery believes she will do what is best for the people and the community will continue to thrive and grow. If she finds someone who is good to her and for her, he will surly add to the prosperity. King Avery abolished the laws that prevented the Queens from ruling when Constance was born. She is the first born, so she is the heir, female or not, it doesn't matter to him. He knows that she will be an amazing ruler. Mabel had a tough time getting pregnant with her in the first place, so trying for more heirs to get a boy was out of the question. By pure luck, they were blessed with a bouncing baby boy last year, but he is so much younger than Constance. He will make a wonderful prince when he is older, and will help his sister, if she needs it. But the thrown is Constance's when the time is right. She has a good head on her shoulders, even being only 8. She is very sweet and just with her actions. She does give them a run for their money at times, but this just shows the kingdom that she is strong willed and will not be taken advantage of nor will she be manipulated. And, because of Avery's actions with the laws preventing women from leading, the Demon King, Astaroth, and the King of Meath, Richard, have also abolished these laws. They both felt they were outdated anyway, and have replaced them with more appropriate ones. They were both blessed with boys off the bat, though it really didn't matter to them, either way, whether they were male or female. Now, though, future generations do not really need to worry about it. Avery asks General Andrew to join him in his study. They sit down in the comfortable chairs in front of some shelves of research books. They catch up with each other, with how their families are and what's new. Then, Avery brings up the kids. "So, guess what I saw earlier, Andrew." Avery says with a wiggle of his eyebrows, hinting that its good. "Hmm, let me think, maybe a circus clown with a deflated balloon?" Andrew says, with his hand wrapped around his chin, thinking. "Nope, our kids have already found each other, haha, and it looks like they get along pretty well." "Oh!" He exclaims, "is that so? How did they even run into each other, this castle is pretty huge, isn't it?" "Oh yeah, it's pretty huge. Maybe its fate," he says with another brow wiggle. "Maybe they are meant to meet and be best friends and one day fall in love!" "Sir, uh, Adrian is only 9," he looks at the king. "Yeah, and Constance is only 8. I'm not saying I want them married by the end of the week. But, I mean in the future if they would want to, I wouldn't have any issues with it. You're an amazing general, and I am sure Adrian will be too. He will turn out just as brave and amazing as his father, my best friend. So, yeah, him as a son in law, not a bad idea at all." "And if they don't like each other like that?" "That is perfectly fine, but I think we should encourage them as much as we can, so how about you bring your son by as often as you can. That way they will be around each other a good bit, maybe even become best friends. They've already been swimming together, today. I am sure they will be great friends, at the very least." "Yeah, I guess. I mean, you and Mabel as in-laws? That's not the worst idea. At least it wouldn't be some horrid lot who I can't stand. I think I can tolerate you two as in-laws." "Yeah, we will just wait and... tolerate?! I think we'd be great in-laws! At least we all already know each other." "I know, I was just joking with you. We are already like brothers, it would just bring us all closer. Then we'd have grandchildren and spoil them rotten, while their parents rule the land. I'd say it would be a pretty remarkable feat." "Yeah, awe little babies... alright we need to stop thinking about babies. You're going to make me want more. What with their adorable little chubby cheeks and their toothless grins. And the little pitter patter of feet through the halls. Okay, okay, we need to stop talking about this, before I get all teary eyed. I am ever so grateful for the family I was fortunate enough to have made, but if I could I'd have ten kids running all over the place. I love children so much. I'd be a happy papa if I was blessed with that many. I am very grateful for the two miracles I do have, but I do wish there was a possibility for more. After the issues we've had, I don't want to risk Mabel's health. She means the world to me, so we can't have any more, these two were hard for her to have in the first place." "Right, lets just focus on here and now then, not the future, or the past, okay?" Andrew grabbed his friends hand, hoping to comfort him for what he's lost, and get his head into a better place. "Okay. So, anyway, I want Adrian and Constance to be around each other as often as possible ok, to at least develop a friendship like ours, okay?" "Sounds good to me, Avery. Well, as long as they are okay with it, of course." "Of course. We can talk to them about it at dinner." Avery checked the time, noticing how close it is to dinner, he gestures to Andrew to follow him out of the room. "Dinner should be served here very soon, General. I think the chef said that we are having roasted duck for dinner with potatoes and vegetables." "Sounds delicious to me. Your cook is very good at their job. Whenever I come to visit, I never leave hungry. They are really, really good." "Yes, they are. I hired him from Astaroth's Kingdom. He came highly recommended by the King, himself. One of the best decisions I've ever made. I wonder how Asty's doing?" "I'm not sure, I haven't heard from him for a while," Andrew says, as he heads through the door to the dinning hall. "I know, maybe we should go visit him soon. The Kingdom is in great shape, any enemies are immediately taken care of by the troops. I think it would be okay for us to visit them in a few weeks." "Do you want me to start making the preparations, sir?" "Well, let me make sure everything is in order with Mathias first, and then we can decide when we can go and visit. Maybe we can make it a road trip, and visit Richard too? Doesn't that sound great?" "Oh a guy's trip! That sounds completely awesome! I am sure he would love to see us too, Avery." "Me too," He notices Mable and Giles have entered the dinning hall. Adrian enters too, shortly after. It's a whole 20 minutes before Constance enters the hall. She does not look too thrilled with her dress, Avery has told his wife many times, she needs to lighten up about what clothes Constance is stuck with. The girl is old enough to know what she wants and doesn't, and based on her face right now, she definitely does not want that poufy orange fluff ball of a dress, not that he could blame her. He is mighty grateful that his wife doesn't pick out his clothes for him. She has always had such peculiar tastes, she did marry him after all.
