Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Omniscient

As the family settles in for the night, the King heads to his study to finish up some last minute paperwork. He comes across a document that says that the Demon village of Lamia has been overrun with bandits and they are planning on attacking the Desmond Kingdom. Along with the document, there is a stack of evidence that is about an inch thick. He begins looking over the evidence, there are wanted posters of very influential degenerates that have now relocated to Lamia. There are also invoices of military grade artillery shipped to Lamia, items that you can't get just anywhere. They would have had to have come from the black market, which means that someone, in whichever military they are from, has done some shady deals and sold them to the enemy. This, in itself, will need to be looked into, for it is very worrisome. He calls forth his royal secretary, Mathias Stone. Mathias has proven himself to the king to be trustworthy and helpful. He takes Mathias' advice seriously, and has never been led astray before by him. As Mathias enters the room, he pulls out a bag of incense, filling the dispenser and then lighting it. The smoke circles the room, leaving behind a sweet cherry scent in its wake. Upon noticing the smell, King Avery immediately calms and becomes content.

Avery looks over his desk, and upon seeing the stack again, remembers why he called for Mathias in the first place. He grabs the top document, shoving it towards Mathias. "Mathias what is the meaning of this? Who sent this to us?"

Mathias grabs the document, and quickly looks it over. "I'm not sure who sent it, Sir. I've only received it this afternoon. I didn't think it was urgent enough to disrupt you, Sir."

"Taking over a village, yeah, I'd say that's pretty urgent. What I don't understand is why it came to us and not the Demon King Astaroth. He is the one in charge of Lamia, Mathias."

"I am not sure, Sir, maybe he wants your help on the matter?"

"Maybe,"

"So, what are you going to do Sir?"

"Hmm, I am not sure yet, what do you think we should do, Mathias?"

"I think we should attack, there's enough evidence to prove that there is an issue and they are planning on attacking within a week. I think it's best if we get them before they get us. It will spare our people."

"Right, right. Send for General Andrew at once, he will take his troops and take care of the problem. Leave no stone unturned, no door unopened. We can't risk our people getting hurt."

"Yes, Sir." Mathias heads to send word to General Andrew. Upon returning to the study, Mathias makes King Avery a cup of tea. Avery takes it and drinks it. He is starting to get a headache, and can't think straight anymore. "Perhaps you should head to bed, your majesty. General Andrew will not arrive until morn, and you look tired, sir."

Avery nods his head in agreement, "You are quite right, Mathias. I am quite tired all of a sudden, and my head is pounding. I will see you tomorrow. Let me know as soon as Andrew is here, ok?"

"Yes, Sir." Mathias watches as Avery heads out of the study. He writes a quick note on the Kings stationary and leaves the room, blowing out the candles as he passes.

King Avery heads to his bed, contemplating if this is the right decision or not. His head feels a little fuzzy, like its in a fog. He doesn't feel too good, and decides to take a concoction to relieve his pounding head. After that, he lays down next to his wife, and is out cold in no time.

Far away, just outside the border to Desmond, a cloaked figure receives word of what transpired in the castle today. He grins as his plan will soon unfold, and heads back into his dark cottage hidden in the woods. He is most pleased with the way things are taking place.

General Andrew received word from King Avery just after midnight. He lets his wife know that he is needed in the castle first thing in the morning. As he drifts back off to sleep, he ponders what could be the problem. The note only said that he is needed, it didn't give any detail as to why or what for.

General Andrew arrives at the castle early the next morning, he didn't bring Adrian this time, as it seemed like an urgent matter. As soon as the General gets through the door, Mathias sends for King Avery. King Avery arrives and ushers both men into his study. They go over the document together, and the evidence. King Avery instructs General Andrew to take his troops and handle the issue.
