Chapter Two

1550 Words
Diana POV Have you ever woken up on the wrong side of the bed? It was weird to say it like that, but that was how I felt. I used to think a bed had no bad side unless it was a really old one, so it weirded me out when people talked about it like ths. Until now. Ever since I saw him yesterday, I couldn't get him out of my thoughts. In the split moments when the teacher was introducing him to us, I took notice of his features. He was good looking, too good looking, and it felt odd to think about a teacher like that. There was something about him that called out to me, but I couldn't tell what. It was even worse that he continued to look at me throughout the time of his introduction and even when he was leaving, he turned back again and our eyes met. Fuck! I gripped my comforter hard and tried not to think about it. He wasn't going to resume till the next week, so I didn't need to worry. Besides, someone like that would definitely have a girlfriend or something. Christ, why was I thinking about stuff like that? I wasn't planning on having a boyfriend or even any romantic interest, not until I left the four walls of Louisiana High. "Baby, aren't you going to school today?" My mom called from downstairs ad I sighed, quickly getting out of bed. Once again, I freshened up and put on my normal sweater and cardigan. By the time I came downstairs, she was already dressed for work so I instinctively knew she would want to drop me off. "Before you say anything, take this. You're looking slim these days," she said, and I looked at her in shock. I recently weighed myself and it was way over my target range. Still, I said nothing and just smiled. I didn't want her to worry about me. She would end up telling my step dad who would waste no time in taking me to see a dietician. Instead, I focused my talks on other things. "Mom, can you stop dropping me off?" "What! Why?" She glanced at me and there was a smile on her face. "Dearest, why would I want to stop doing that? You're my baby." I pointed to her stomach. "Mom, that's your baby." It still felt weird to look at her bump and imagine that I would be eighteen years older than my sibling. When she and Michael first told me about the pregnancy, I was upset. First, I didn't expect her to be pregnant at that age, it couldn't be safe. Secondly, they both already had children so what was the need? Now, it had grown on me and I was ready to see the baby too. "Let's go." In her car, it took less than five minutes to get there and I was just coming out of the car when I saw Lily. She was standing with her minions, glaring at me through the glass door and I shivered. What did she want with me this time? Mom, however, waved to her and smiled. "Is she waiting for you? I think I should get going then..besides, I'm late for work." I just sighed and got out of the car and watched as she drove away. She didn't really know that we were no longer friends, and I didn't really see the point of telling her. A part of me believed she knew it herself, and didn't just want to talk about it. After some seconds, I turned to the school and began to walk ahead, holding my book in my hand. Just as I expected, Lily pulled my hand and turned me to face her. "You slut!" I frowned. "what do you mean by that?" She scoffed and glanced at her girls, who gave me evil glares. "Don't pretend like you didn't know what you were doing yesterday. Giving Mr. Lucien flirty stares and making him notice you. How despicable can you be?" A lot of thoughts flew through my head at that instant, but all I could mumble out was, "Oh, so that's his name." "You fool! What do you think?" Before I could respond, another girl stepped forward and pointed at me. "He is never going to like a fat pig like you, don't forget that." I steeled my features and said nothing, wishing all of them to go away. However, a bead of sweat had started to trickle down my arms. It wasn't like I was very scared of her. After all, all the things she did to me were just a little below what that other girl did, but it was still painful. Especially when she used my insecurities against me. How had I ever made her my friend? "Just stay away from him, Diana, or you'll be sorry." All of them walked away after that, leaving me in surprise. Since when had we started fighting over teachers? The new man was good looking, no doubt, but if she reaIly wanted him, then she could. I wasn't about to sacrifice the little peace I had because of one man. I shook my head and continued to walk ahead, when the students around all began to whisper. At first, it was weird considering that they were all snobs who thought being loud was the easiest and best way to be famous. In their defence it worked most times, but then again, I found it childish. However, their character was so surprising and as I passed, I began to hear different comments. "Who's he? The new teacher?" "Oh my god! He looks so good." "I'm dreaming myself over here…" My mind froze for a moment and I turned to see what everyone was looking at, ad there he was. Mr. Lucien. I had thought it was impossible for him to look better than he did yesterday, but I was wrong. As he stepped out of a clean black car, I noticed his white crisp shirt. It fitted him so well, and for a second, he reminded me of those models in the magazines. He had such a nice body, unlike me. He was wearing a pair of dark shades, and as he walked towards me, I couldn't stop myself from staring. Wasn't he supposed to have resumed next week? "You're in my history class, right?" A voice floated in my mind, and it took some seconds before I realized it was the new teacher talking. Oh goodness! His voice felt like butter. Everyone watched as he asked the girl. I recognized her in my class, but I couldn't picture her name. "What?!" She asked, and I saw the slight smile on his face. I watched as he removed the glasses and moved one feet closer to her. "You're in my class, aren't you?" "Yes, I guess. Yes." She answered better the second time, no doubt feeling more bold. There was no doubt the news about them talking in the hallway would gather attention. Just then, I thought about what Lily and her minions said. Thank goodness he wasn't talking to me. Everyone watched silently as he nodded his head and continued to walk towards the classrooms. Just before he went out of view, his head turned towards mine and our eyes met. Again. I instantly swallowed and looked down, trying not to think about how piercing his eyes were. It felt like he could read my thoughts and I didn't like that. Throughout the day, everyone talked about how cute he was and how lucky my classmate was that he noticed her. At break time, I headed towards the cafeteria to pass away time when my best friend, Cathy, fell in step beside me. "So, what's new today?" It was her way of greeting these days, and since she was in a lot of clubs for senior year, I hardly ever saw her. "Nothing much," I responded. "Still the same thing everyday." By the same thing, I meant not eating till dinner, and wishing I was anywhere but here. "Come join the history club. Your life will be much more fun." "Urghh!" I made a face of puking. "You know how I hate that stuff. Lessons about who did what, and the year. Cathy, I don't know how you do it." She shrugged and bit into her apple. "Oh well, your loss. Besides, there's something to look forward to now." "What do you mean?" "The new teacher, of course. The principal brought him to the club, and introduced us to him. Goodness, Diana, where did this school find such a hunk of a man from?" There was weird glow in her eyes. "He looks too good to be true." I sighed and absently played with my phone. "Don't tell me you're part of the Mr. Lucien fan club now." "Do they have one? Where can I sign in?" She asked, glancing around the cafeteria, and I laughed. "But seriously, you can't say you haven't seen it too." "I have," I conceded. "He is good looking and has a nice voice." I could easily tell her that. What I couldn't say however was how all my dreams last night were about him.
