chapter 2 First shift

It happened I began to feel every bone breaking the pain was horrible I shrieked in pain then I herd a voice that said “just relax Lilly after this first shift it wont hurt.” I was…. Was shifting I thought impossible it was painful and it was wonderful at the same time white fur began to sprout and long claws grew from my fingers and in what felt like hours it was finally over. I was a beautiful white wolf with a golden star on my forehead. I herd her speak to me for the first time “I am star lets run” so we ran threw the woods so happy so excited.”Star” I spoke as we ran threw the woods. “Yes” she responded. “why didn't you ever talk to me when I was younger?” I asked her. “because there are things you don't understand or know yet but in time you will and it was the wish of the goddess that I lay dormant until now.” we ran back to the house as I wondered if I should tell my family I was scared to tell them so I shifted back at the tree line it was still painful but not as bad and it didn't take me long think the goddess. It was getting faster as well. I had to run to the back door naked. Praying to the goddess that no one would see me and my family would still be asleep it wasn't quite morning the sky hadn't even started to rise yet. I quietly entered the house and went upstairs they were all still asleep thank the goddess I thought. I wondered what time it was looking at the clock as I entered my room it said 3 am. Relived I didn't see or hear anyone up yet I got something to wear out of my closet but as I finished putting on my shirt my door opened slowly it was Gram-gram.

“So” she whispered looking at me “it happened”. “What do you mean” I said looking at Gram-gram hoping she didn't know but who was a kidding of course she did shes Gram-gram. “You finally got your wolf to come out and you shifted didn't you” she said to me softly. I couldn't lie to Gram-gram so I told her everything about the dream and what happened when I woke by the time I was done it was 5am. Gram-gram pulled me in a hug she smiled “your sent is different you smell of strawberry's and honeysuckles and your have purple specks in your eyes” she told me.”So that's what gave me away” I said to her. I hadn't noticed that I smell of strawberry's now I always smelled of honeysuckles though and I forgot your wolfs eye color shows as specks in your eyes. I was wondering why purple specks its a strange color even for a wolf “I guess everyone will know then wont they” I said to Gram-gram. “Yes” she said “they will there's no hiding this from them they know your sent and eyes too well”.

Once the alarm went off me and Gram-gram went down stairs knowing that they will know I thought to myself I will just tell them and get it over with. All the rest of my family had arrived and was gathered already getting ready to go. “Everyone I have some news” I announced. Everyone looked at me “I...I….I have a wolf now and I can shift” I said unsure of what their reactions will be. Everyone smelled the air they smelled the change in my sent and saw the specks in my eyes and they got excited. Mom and dad asked me at the same time “when did this happen”? “At midnight.” and so I told them everything the dream and all. To my surprise they all were happy for me, “but wait what will happen when the Alpha finds out” I wondered out loud. Will he be okay with this or will he banish me…..I wondered and not knowing the answer looking at the clock and realizing that it was 7am and our meeting was at 8am we needed to head to the pack house. I grabbed a protein bar knowing that I needed something after my first shift and walked towards the door. So with fear in our hearts and not knowing what would happen we make the walk to the pack house….

Alpha Thomas

I jolted awake why was I having this weird feeling? My wolf was restless I looked at the clock it was 12am what has happened I thought to myself something seems different but what. I knew I was to be meeting we a few pack families at 8am for job assignments have I missed something? I walked to my office pulling out the files for each wolf I was to be giving jobs to today. Mary, Jack, Mike, and Lilly. I knew Lilly is the one with no wolf I decided that a maid would be a good spot for her. I went threw each folder and all were in order. I herd a knock at my door “who is it”? I called out. “Beta Conner Alpha, are you okay its late”? He called threw the door. “Come in Conner “I called back to him. “I woke up with a weird feeling so I thought I would go threw the files for later maybe I missed something” I told him as he closed the door standing near me. “I looked finding nothing” I told him. “maybe I just need to clear my head” I told him. So I went out to the woods maybe I need a run I thought. So I removed my sweat pants stashing them and shifted I ran hoping to clear my head.

As I ran I thought in 6 months it will be my 21st birthday. I had taken the pack at a young age because my father was killed in rouge attack when I was 18 I was with him and was able to kill the rouge but I couldn't save my father. My mother is depressed and sad I hope to cheer her up but at least she is still here but if she doesn't come out soon she may not make it finding my mate may help her. I still hadn't found my Luna I need to look soon because if Alpha’s don't find their mate by age 21 they begin to loose their strength. I hope I dont have to take a chosen Alpha’s can take a chosen but I would only do that as a lost resort. I had already planned a few balls hoping to find my mate starting next month there will be 2 balls a month.

I ran for a long time and as I saw the sun began to come up I ran back to the pack house shifting in the wood line slipping on my sweat pants I had left at the entrance to the woods. I went back to my office again the feeling still wasn't gone. Looking at the clock it’s 7am and so I decided to get ready I jumped in the shower and put on my blue jeans and a tee shirt. I was never one to wear suites and formal wear except at balls and big functions when required basically. As I came down the stairs I couldn't help but wonder what this strange feeling is. Then this very faint sent hit me it smelled so good I wanted to seek it out. Hoping I can get this meeting done quickly so I can go seek out this intoxicating sent. My wolf began to get excited jumping around and freaking out. “Calm down” I yelled at him in my mind “we have Alpha duty's to do”. Pushing him to the back of my mind I headed for the door.
