Grace woke to the sound of rain pattering against the windows of the safe house. Her shoulder throbbed where Damien's bullet had torn through muscle and tendon, but the pain medication made everything feel distant and dreamlike. She turned her head slowly, expecting to find the room empty as it had been for the past three days.
