the first day, classes.

The teacher takes attendance as soon as the bell rings, the kid closes to the wall, olive toned skin soft white freckles dotting their skin. His hair is in a braid down his back; it's pure black like the night sky when there's no lights. The student stands up and closes the door, he is quiet and calm. The lights in this room are bothersome, the teacher stands up after a few moments. “If you see in the back we got a new student HER name is Yvette, please treat HER nicely.” I slump in my seat trying to hide from the eyes of everyone staring. I hide my face in a book, putting my earbuds in for the rest of class. At the end we get an assignment done. Next is a math class. Consumer math is called. I head down following the map, I got each class highlighted. I get there within two minutes. Some of the spots in the halls got crowded since people clump together here too. Once in class I realize it's the puggy old man, I feel my heart sink. Math is one of my favorite topics. But this time it might be different. I walked up to him. “Yvette?” He asks with a grumpy grotesque voice. I am quiet in reply, but speak up. “I go by forest though, please call me that.” He gives a quick eye roll. “What ever kid, sit in the 6th row in the front” Like every other classroom it's in rows. ‘Very original’ I think sarcastically. I go sit down, the bell rings. Class goes as normal, no introduction which is nice. I actually take notes since this is important. About half way through class this kid, short black hair, its curly messy too, he is clearly stoned though. He is wearing a hoodie baggy and his pants are ripped so there's a few holes, they dont look like they were made like that. The teacher stops him before he sits “Where were you all morning?” He asks, clearly grumpy. You can tell he is pissed about being paid so little for doing so much work; or at least what he thinks is too much work. “Well yesterday you told us the bell doesn't dismiss us you do, so clearly the bell doesn't tell me when to come to class.” He sits down behind me. I get uncomfortable the smell of weed radiates off him and if my mom smells it on me when I get home.. Well… let's just hope she doesn't. The class at least ends there and we can do whatever we want, so I decided to draw. I feel a breath on my neck after a minute and look back to see he is leaning over his desk and looking at my drawing. “Hay that's actually kinda good” He says. His voice is deep though not exactly base yet; it has this silky smooth sound to it. I cover the doodle with my arms, it's not good compare to when I actually care about what I draw. “It's nothing..” I say quietly loud enough for him to hear but not loud enough over the other kids. But he listens and goes back to whatever he was doing. The bell rings at the end of class. I got something called study skills. I had it at the last school. It's basically a free hour to study or do homework. A Lot of the seniors had it since they got a huge workload. I go to the classroom, there are maybe 5 of the standard desks with the chairs connected but a ton of bean bags, the supper big and fluffy ones. Some mats to sit on, there's 2 of these weird chairs where there's a place for another person to sit. The teacher's desk is in the back of the room opposed to the front near the door like most teachers. I walk up to their desk. I notice a trans flag and enby flag behind their desk with them wearing a he/they pronoun pin. “Hello! You're the new student right? Would you like to be called what's in the system or by a different name??” He is perky. “I prefer forest and they/them if that's okay..” Speaking in a quiet tone. “Okay forest! Nice to meet you, I'm so glad to have you here. And you dont have to ask if it's okay. This is a safe space for everyone ware you can hang out and talk with people or simply do homework.`` I smile finely, feeling welcome in this strange new world. The room is actually bright and dont have those annoying school lights. “We have headphones in case anything gets too loud for you, also some laptops to help with the work. You just gotta return them when you are done okay? We got a bookshelf where you can check out books. We also got some fidget toys in case those help in a few buckets by the books. All I ask is for you to treat everything in this room with respect. That also goes for the people in here, give them respect and they should give you respect” I nod in understanding as he goes on. After a few minutes I go and sit down in a bean bag, its memory foam. It's nice, I get started on my work from English and look at the rest of my schedule. Grade: 11 sex: female name: Yvette A. I got introduced hid in my book listing to music. The lights never got turned off but I left school sixth hour saying I had a note. That note is 3 years old and was cuz I had a doctor's appointment. No one takes stuff from someone who may be sick and going to the doctors. It comes in handy really. On my way home I noticed the guy from math following me. I shouted at him, ‘hey, why are you following me?’ At least I wanted to. I actually didn't. But he walks into the house next to mine. Scary really. That HE is the kid next door. It could have been anyone; but that creep?! Uge. I walk in and close the door. I didn't eat lunch at school. No point in just getting sick anyways the food didn't look better than the last schools. I order pizza and it takes about an hour. In that time I cleaned the place up. Beer bottles everywhere since my dad was home yesterday.
