“I can’t believe you drove all the way up here just to get your sister,” Miles says as I step away from my car, gravel crunching under my shoes. My gaze stays fixed on the two of them.
Freya flashes me a wide grin. I don’t return it. She’s only trying to provoke me. “Did you guys have fun?” I ask, cool and detached like nothing bothers me about this at all.
“We–” Miles startles loudly when Freya clings to his arm, her arms snug around him. His eyes go wide at her sudden move, staring at her like she would transform into a monster and eat him.
“Of course we did,” she says, smiling up at him with sugary sweetness as if I can’t recognize her real smiles. “Didn’t we, honey bun?”
“What? Honey bun?” Miles makes a face like he wants to vomit even as he grins.
“I’m glad you did,” I reply flat
