CHAPTER III: The Cliff

1058 Words
"Don't come close," I whispered, my voice trembling with fear. I stood at the edge of the towering cliff, my heart pounding in my chest. The vast expanse of the raging sea below sent chills down my spine. If I were to jump, there would be no turning back. Death awaited me. "Please, Ayla, think about us," pleaded the man with dark gray hair, his voice filled with desperation. His eyes, a mix of concern and love, were fixed on me. How could I explain to him that I wasn't Ayla? But revealing the truth would only complicate things further. "I understand that you're going through a difficult time," he continued, his words laced with genuine care. "But believe me, you have the strength to overcome it. You don't have to go to such extremes. I can't bear the thought of losing you again. Please, step away from the cliff." His words pierced through my confusion, and a sharp pang of emotion shot through my chest. Why did his plea affect me so deeply? Who was he to Ayla? I felt a connection, as if I had experienced this scenario before. "He was Luan, Ayla's mate " a voice echoed in my mind, providing a glimpse into the past. Ayla's past. I gazed into his eyes once more, a mixture of beauty and sadness reflected in them. Tears welled up, threatening to spill over. There was something about him, something that made me long for his presence in my own life. Without uttering a word, I mustered a faint smile, silently acknowledging his presence. Maybe he could help me navigate this bewildering situation. The previous owner of this body had trusted him, and somehow, I could feel that trust too. With a newfound determination, I slowly distanced myself from the treacherous edge of the cliff. But just as I thought I had made my choice, a deafening roar erupted from the depths of the forest, shattering the fragile peace of the moment. The sound reverberated through the air, sending shivers down my spine. What could it be? An animal? A force of nature? I couldn't be sure. But one thing was certain - I am scared. As the deafening roar subsided, a hushed silence fell over the forest. Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows, moving with a grace and power that commanded attention. It was a large black wolf, its sleek fur glistening under the moonlight. Its eyes, a striking shade of piercing blue, held an intensity that seemed to penetrate the souls of those who dared to meet its gaze. With every step, the wolf exuded an aura of authority, its presence demanding respect. It walked closer, its head held high and its posture displaying a regal confidence. The surrounding air seemed to crackle with an electric energy, as if it were the embodiment of the forest itself. No one tried to make a sound, frozen in awe and trepidation, exchanged nervous glances. They knew they had entered forbidden territory, but they never expected to encounter a creature of such magnificence. Fear mingled with curiosity as they awaited the wolf's next move. The wolf's deep, resonant voice broke the silence, carrying an undeniable air of command. "What brings you to my territory?" it growled, its voice echoing through the trees. Each word was laced with an unspoken warning, a reminder of the consequences that awaited those who trespassed on its domain. Wait, did it just speak? My fear suddenly faded. I wasn't afraid anymore. Everything seemed like a prank. A speaking wolf with a strong aura? Was that even real? "Haha! What kind of mascot is that?" I exclaimed, trying to make light of the situation. But then, everyone's eyes were on me. Did I make a mistake? The wolf growled and started running after me. I screamed as it grabbed me so fast that I thought I was going to fall off the cliff. "Help!" I shouted desperately. Suddenly, a man who's said to be Ayla's mate knelt down before the wolf. "Alpha Kale, please spare her life. She didn't know what she was doing," he pleaded. The wolf, now known as Alpha Kale, roared like a mad man. "She dared to insult the Alpha, and you have the courage to beg for her life?" Alpha Kale sniffed my hair. He was so close that I could barely breathe, suffocating in his forest scent. His smell was strangely addictive. "Who are you?" he whispered. No, he didn't actually whisper. He was in my mind. What on earth were they doing to my mind? Mom, Dad, help me get out of this place! "We are from the White Moon pack, and she is our dearest daughter, Luna, of our pack. She had been sick for a long time, and for some reason, she wanted to end her pain, so she ran out into this forest. We tried to stop her because we couldn't bear to lose her," the lady who claimed to be my mother explained to Alpha Kale. "Alpha Kale, we don't want a war. We are just trying to save our daughter. It was her first time leaving our territory," Ayla's father added. "Alpha Leo, even though this was an accident, you still tried to enter my territory. And you cannot leave without something to offer," Alpha Kale stated firmly. This wolf was playing some tricks. "Anything, Alpha. I will never forget this day that you have considered us," Ayla's father responded, willing to do whatever it takes to resolve the situation. And then, Kale said something that shocked everyone. "I want your daughter." What? Ayla's father was speechless. The Wolf wanted me? No, it's Ayla. I'm just a lost soul here. Yeah, I have to admit it now. "But Alpha-" Ayla's father tried to interject. "Don't ever try to fool me, Alpha Leo," Alpha Kale responded firmly. "With all due respect, my brother Alpha, Ayla, is my mate and our wedding was canceled due to unexpected circumstances, so we had to wait for the next full moon." The tension in the air was palpable as everyone awaited Alpha Kale's response. The Alpha released his hold on me and turned towards Ayla's family. "I will claim what is rightfully mine," he declared. And just like that, the black wolf disappeared into the dense forest.
