I sighed heavily and waved her off with a curt thank you, and the servant fluttered out of my chambers—likely glad to be away from my brooding company. It wasn’t that I was disappointed the ceremony was canceled. Not in the slightest. But I had been dreading this day for far too long, and I was desperate to get the damn thing over with.
