CAESAR
It was near midnight when a knock happened upon my door. A month ago, it would have seemed unusual to receive knocks at this hour. But as of late, it had been a common occurrence.
I opened the door to the find a guard, standing at attention just outside. I looked him over, recognizing the scar on his lip. They never had names, my guards. Only features that helped me to identify them from the others.
Ah, yes. One of mine.
“Come in.” I widened the door for him and stepped aside as the guard glanced around and then swept into my room. Once the door was securely shut behind him, I looked him over. “Something to report, I hope?”
