With a loud crash, Guo Shaocong's head was struck and began to bleed. It turned out that the chandelier above had suddenly fallen and hit him squarely on the head. Fortunately, it wasn't a large chandelier or else Guo Shaocong may have been killed instead of just injured. He fell to his knees, holding his bleeding head and screaming in pain.
Zhang Lili quickly rushed over to ask what happened, but Guo Shaocong angrily yelled at her for not seeing that he had been hit. Zhang Lili felt embarrassed and was on the verge of tears from being scolded in public.
Ye Qiu sneered at Guo Shaocong, thinking that he deserved it for his arrogance. But when Guo Shaocong accused him of causing the accident, Ye Qiu defended himself saying that it was simply bad luck and that God must be punishing Guo Shaocong for lying.
Frustrated and in pain, Guo Shaocong demanded that Zhang Lili help him up. Just then, a nurse carrying medicine slipped and accidentally dropped two bottles of alcohol onto Guo Shaocong's already wounded head. The glass shattered and the alcohol spilled onto the wound, intensifying the pain.
Guo Shaocong writhed on the ground in agony as Zhang Lili scolded the nurse for being careless. The situation had gone from bad to worse for poor Guo Shaocong.
Zhang Lili raised her voice, scolding the nurse while beckoning another one over from the guide desk. The two rushed over to help.
"What do you need us to do, Sister Lili?" one of them asked.
"Can't you see that Shaocong is injured? Help me take him to get bandaged up," Zhang Lili snapped.
The nurses were not thrilled with being ordered around, but they didn't dare to refuse the doctor. In the hospital hierarchy, doctors always hold more power than nurses.
Together, Zhang Lili and the two nurses helped Guo Shaocong into the elevator.
But then tragedy struck again.
Guo Shaocong's arm got caught in the closing elevator door!
He was being supported by the nurses, so logically he should have been safely inside. But as soon as he entered, they let go of him. One nurse explained to Zhang Lili: "We can't leave our posts for long, we won't be able to accompany Dr. Guo up."
"Just get out!" Zhang Lili yelled before turning back to Guo Shaocong.
But before she could even react, the elevator doors closed on his arm and he let out a scream of pain.
This commotion caught the attention of many people, including security guards who came over to try and pry open the doors. However, just as they were about to rescue him...
the power went out!
Some may say it was just a coincidence.
But in this moment, Guo Shaocong couldn't help but feel like he was cursed. He wondered if there truly was divine punishment for his bad luck. Little did he know, it was all a ploy by Ye Qiu.
Ye Qiu had secretly drawn a bad luck charm based on the "Maoshan Talisman Collection" book he had read. And it seemed that it worked all too well.
"Perfect!"
Battling with frustration, Ye Qiu exited the hospital and made his way towards Jinghu Lake, his only way back home. As usual, the lakeside was bustling with activity - aunties dancing in the square, elderly men playing chess, children running around, and fishing enthusiasts casting their lines. Lost in thought, Ye Qiu suddenly heard a cry for help. Acting on instinct, he turned to see a young boy struggling in the lake. Panicked voices of bystanders filled the air as they realized the child's life was in danger. Without hesitation, Ye Qiu leapt into the water and swiftly swam to the boy's side. With quick reflexes, he carried the boy to safety as worried onlookers gathered around. The boy had swallowed a lot of water and passed out from exhaustion. As someone suggested calling for an ambulance, Ye Qiu took action and used his CPR training to revive the boy. Within minutes, the child regained consciousness and thanked Ye Qiu for saving him.
Ye Qiu smiled and inquired, "Where are your family members?"
"I'm not sure where Grandpa and Uncle Zhao went." As soon as the boy finished speaking, an elder man and a middle-aged man hurried over.
"Xiaohu, are you alright?" The elder man embraced the boy and asked with concern.
"I'm fine, grandpa. I accidentally fell into the lake but this uncle saved me." The boy pointed to Ye Qiu.
The elder man said to Ye Qiu with gratitude, "Young man, thank you for your help."
"Sir, I wasn't saying anything about you. At your age, you should be more careful. If something had happened to the child, your family would have blamed you, and you would have felt guilty forever." Ye Qiu scolded the elder man sternly.
Before the elder man could respond, the middle-aged man behind him interjected, "Kid, do you even know who you're talking to? Let me tell you..."
"Zhao Yun!" The elder man turned around and glared at the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man quickly fell silent.
The elder man smiled at Ye Qiu and said, "Young man, I will be more careful in the future. Thank you so much for today."
"It was just a small act of kindness. You're welcome."
Only then did Ye Qiu take a closer look at the elder man.
The elderly gentleman was dressed in a traditional Tang suit, with perfectly combed hair and a black jade ring on his left thumb, which was quite remarkable.
Beside him sat a middle-aged man with a stern expression and fierce eyes, giving off an air of authority.
"What is your name, young man?" the old man asked kindly.
"I am Ye Qiu," Ye Qiu replied.
"It seems like you should be at work," the old man observed.
"Why, are you checking my residency status?" Ye Qiu smiled and added, "It's getting late, I should be going. Goodbye."
He turned to leave.
"Please stay," the old man hurriedly said as he pulled out a bank card and handed it to Ye Qiu.
"What does this mean?" Ye Qiu frowned.
The old man smiled and explained, "Young man, thank you for saving my grandson. There is 500,000 on this card. I hope you don't think it's too little. Please take it."
Ye Qiu was taken aback. The amount on the card showed that the old man was quite wealthy, but he wasn't tempted by it.
"I didn't help for money," Ye Qiu firmly stated before taking a step forward.
Seeing his actions, the middle-aged man sneered inwardly. Not for money? He thought to himself. However, instead of accepting the bank card from the old man's hand, Ye Qiu focused his gaze on the old man's face. After a moment of silence, he asked, "Are you feeling unwell?"
"No, I just had a physical examination a few days ago and everything was fine," the old man replied with a smile.
"That's strange," Ye Qiu furrowed his brows. "I have a feeling that you are sick and it seems quite serious, but I can't pinpoint what exactly it is."
Ye Qiu apologized, "Perhaps my intuition is wrong. I hope you don't mind."
"I don't mind," the old man replied with a smile.
"In that case, I will take my leave now. Goodbye," Ye Qiu waved before quickly exiting the room.
As soon as he left, the old man's demeanor changed completely. If he had seemed like a friendly neighbor in front of Ye Qiu, at this moment, he exuded an aura of dominance and control, his expression stern and imposing.
"Over the years, I have consulted many renowned doctors, but none of them were able to detect my illness. Yet this young man could tell. Could it be that God has finally opened His eyes and decided to grant me a few more years of life?" the old man mused to himself.
He then commanded, "Zhao Yun!"
"Here, Dragon King," the middle-aged man responded respectfully.
"What do you want?" Zhao Yun asked.
"Immediately investigate everything about Ye Qiu. I want to know everything." The old man's tone was firm and resolute.
"Yes!"
