The morning most definitely does not shed more light on the situation, King Titan doesn't even pick up his phone when Evan calls and somehow it seems like the situation is resolved for the day. We go to my fathers funeral but we have to stay away or try and explain my new appearance and I have Blake give my brother Devin my phone number to call me at a latter date so that we can talk about the fact that were both turned vampires in the past thirteen years or so. We leave directly after the funeral and I call mom from the car and make up some emergency for work on the way to the airport, we've already loaded the Kent's private jet with our things and Evan's, turns out he was completely serious about not leaving my side, though I don't know how that's going to work out when or if I go back to work. He's a Titan and will most likely not be accepted by the vampires I work with.
No sooner does the plane land does my phone start ringing and Kent needs me to rush him a business expense report from his office over to The Guards offices. Great, that's the last place I want to be going right now after finding out my linage and how it could get me and everyone who knows killed.
Twenty minutes later I flash into the business offices of The Guard, which of course are under ground just like all of the vampire run businesses that cant really be explained well. I had to leave Evan at my apartment and Blake stayed with him to help him make himself comfortable. Charles of course came with me on the way over but is overcompensating to make everything seem normal and went off to do god knows what in this building. I don't look like hell anymore but I still have super short hair covered by Evan's fedora, I'm back to wearing my business attire with black dress pants that lay overtop of my red pumps and my button up white shirt is tucked in and opened at the top so that an appropriate amount of cleavage is showing and a thin red scarf wraps around my neck to cover the bite marks from the Griever.
My heels click satisfactory against the tile flooring as I make my way towards the office Kent is waiting for me in, he said his businesses were being overlooked once again, they did this apparently every fifteen to twenty years to make sure everything was on the up and up since he's such a pivotal figure in the vampire community.
I knock on the large wooden door and quietly open it when I hear no answer. I had expected a small office but what I walk into is a large round room with filing cabinets on every free space of wall and at least ten feet between then and a desk that sits in the middle of the room with an older but still attractive woman sitting behind the desk, she seems to be going over some kind of paperwork. Kent is sitting in an uncomfortable chair in front of her desk. I can only see his back but he seems board out of his mind. I walk up and hold the paper in between his face and his phone, or rather the only thing that's keeping him stuck to the seat because he's so board.
"Ah thank you Ilena, this is the last one I needed and I had forgotten it on my desk." He says and I know he's trying to start a conversation other wise he would have just said thank you and sent me away.
"I'm glad I could be of help, is there anything else sir or shall I go?" I ask as I start to get anxious, this really is the last place I want to be right now. He looks up at me frowning because of my obvious avoidance of his attempt to be a conversation started, but frowns for an all new reason when he sees my hair.
"Ilena what happened to your hair?" He asks standing and removing my fedora, through my attempts to try and stop him and then he studies me thoroughly just as Charles did but Kent's first thought seems to be to remove my scarf and gasps as he does.. "Ilena?" He asks sounding worried.
"Relax, I'm perfectly fine we can talk about this later." I say motioning my eyes toward the desk clerk who has paid no mind to our conversation in the slightest.
"Excuse us for a moment." Kent mutters as he pull me towards the door and the woman only makes a sight noise of acknowledgement. "What happened to you? Charles was supposed to protect you, Blake too, ill kill them for leaving you by yourself." He growls as he studies me again searching for anything he missed.
"Stop it." I growl back at him while pushing his hands away and fixing my scarf and hat. "I was attack by Griever's, obviously I'm fine so please just leave it." I plead with him through a false strength, praying he will just let me leave even if he wants to pick this back up later at least we wont be here.
"You have to report it." He states and nearly yanks my arm out of place as he flashes us down the hall and into what looks like a police station for vampires, I guess anyway.
"There's nothing to report." I gripe to him but he pulls me further still.
"They need to be dealt with, they all do." He dictates, but he's still not hearing me.
"They have been dealt with." I whisper, I don't know if killing them will get me in trouble but id rather not chance it, I can feel my electricity rising though and for once I'm not wearing my metal jewelry and I cant seem to locate any close enough for me to grab it. "Shit." I curse as I accidently spark Kent across the room. "Sorry." I say as I run over to him and try to help him up though he's a bit reluctant to touch me. Everyone is staring and I guess ill just have to play this off as my vampire ability finally showing itself.
"That's new." He said with a questioning look as he climbs back to his feet without my help.
"Yeah found it while I was gone." I mutter and try to get back on point, I pull him to the side and whisper to him. "Look the Griever's are already dead so there's no reason to report it, understand?" I ask and he looks down at me in awe, its supposed to be pretty hard too kill on Griever and Evan killed three at the same time. He looks like he's about to ask an obvious question when I become light headed again and start sinking towards the floor as darkness consumes me, I barely recognize that Kent is calling my name just before everything turns to black.
------------------------------------
I stretch and feel silk sheets caressing my skin and a soft bed enveloping me, I feel a warm body next to mind and open one eye to see that Evan is propped us against the padded headboard next to me playing with his phone.
"Couldn't wait to get me in bed I see." I snicker as I roll over to look at him and he tries to keep his eyes off of my smoldering ones, I never did lose that s****l apatite from when I was first turned and this was a new kind of sexy in my bed. He was a rough and tumble kind of guy, unlike vampires he has a five o'clock shadow and a brushing of grey in his black hair, even though he only looks to be in his mid twenties. I can just barely see his sculpted body hidden under his white button up shirt and blue jeans.
"Now who's trying to get me in trouble." He teases just before he looks down at me and breaths out shakily and wipes his face. "You can not look at me like that and expect me to do nothing. This is your only warning." He sighs out and I cant help but smile seductively up at him, I realize all I'm wearing is a thin tank top and a pair of lacy underwear as I get on get up on my knees and teasingly play with the tips of my fingers against my thighs. "Holy goddess." He groans and before I realize it I'm straddling his lap and his lips are a hairs breath away from mine, his strong arms are holding me to him and is entire body is tense underneath me. I smile devilishly as he tries to make up his mind if being with me is worth dying over and slowly flick out my tongue and drag it across his bottom lip. Just as he's about to cave the door to my room opens and suddenly I'm back under the covers and he's across the room, staring out of the wall of windows just as Kent walks in.
"Your awake, good. How are you feeling?" He asks walking over to the bed but stiffens when he sees Evan. "Who's this?" He asks trying to keep the tone from his voice but failing.
"I'm fine thanks, this is Evan a friend of my families. I ran into him while on the trip." I say a stand to walk over to my closet, they both notice my half naked body as I do so but neither is willing to be the first to play nice. I throw on a pair of black yoga pants, bra and purple yoga tank that shows of just a little of my stomach and head out of my room. I really don't want to be in the middle of their pissing match but of course they both follow me into the kitchen where Charles and Blake are both having a drink and discussing my mysterious black outs.
"We were just talking about you." Blake says stating the obvious as I pour myself a glass of bourbon but only after chugging a bottle of water, I was dying of thirst.
"Its not a mystery, its a new power that I've used all of twice, my body needs time to get used to it that's all. I'm sure in time I wont have this problem." I say feeling the need for another water as I grab another from the fridge and chug it. I almost feel dehydrated but that's impossible for a vampire.
"Are you sure your ok?" Kent walks over and asks as he wraps me in his arms and gives me a peck on the lips, Charles and Evan have conveniently turn away for the sudden display of affection which has me smiling inwardly, what would the men in my life do with themselves if I found my actual mate, they might all be lost.
"Yes I'm perfectly fine, but thank you for taking care of me and all." I say returning his chaste kiss and turning back to now my third bottle of water.
"Good, because I have a client coming up in a couple minutes and need to go. Charles mind being my backup?" He asks and Charles nods as they both head for the elevator but not until Charles steals a kiss as well, moments later there out of hearing range and I turn to look at Evan.
"Seems I'm not the only one who likes the shaved look." Evan says as he walks over and leans on the granite top of the kitchen island.
"So are you going to tell me why I keep passing out or did I pretty much hit the nail it on the head?" I ask as I finally start sipping my bourbon.
"Normally I would say yes, but with your mixed heritage I went ahead and asked your father anyway and he said that its a possibility that your mother put a block on your power or powers because of the circumstances, in order to hide you better. Now, using your power is pushing against the block, which is essentially pushing on your mind and making you pass out from the strain. So in that case we need to go see a melder to see if they can sense a block and if so, see if they can remove it." He says a little to calmly for my liking, this is my brain were talking about. But then again he's old enough that this must be some what kind of normal for him.
"Ok, do you know any melders in the area?" I ask praying that this might be an easy fix.
"Ill have to take a minute and research some old contacts of mine, but I'm sure ill be able to find one fairly quick." He says confidently.
I scratch my head with both hands while my elbows sit on the countertop, I'm starting to get stressed out. Which usually doesn't happen because I have s*x frequently, it makes for a great de-stressor, unfortunately I haven't had s*x since I got the voicemail about my dad and its making me feel a little out of sorts on top of being stressed out. So at this point I had two options, go back to seducing Evan though I barely know him or I could go masturbate in the shower. Though I didn't really like option two, its most likely the smartest and I do desperately want a shower.
"Alright, you do that, I have to go wash the past two days of assault and s****l tension off before I go nuts." I declare without looking at either of them and walk back to my room, towards my shower and the sweet relief it may bring.
One less layer of skin and forty five minutes later, I step into my closet and get dressed in my usual: black dress pants, white button up, red pumps and my new additives or red scarf and Evan's fedora. I make sure that my shirt is tucked in correctly as I head for the door to my bedroom and overhear Evan talking to someone on the phone.
"Does he really think he's going to find her way out there? Look tell him I've got a worthy crusade for once and I could use his help. The only way he's going to find her is if he's actually looking for her, not hiding in the desert?" He spoke
exasperatedly.
I wonder who he is talking to or about for that matter.
"Just...let him know what's going on and what I said, I could really use his help, I have a feeling that my whole situation could blow up in my face at the drop of a hat and it would be nice if I had someone around I could trust. Thank you....Ill talk to you later, bye." He says and hangs up the phone just as I walk into the room. "Who are you trying to recruit into this insane situation?" I ask casually as I walk over to my dresser to put on some jewelry.
"Oh just an old friend of mine, he's been a little lost for a while but I think he just needs to get back to what he does best and he will find himself easily enough." He seems worried and its enough to have him staring distractedly down at his phone.
"By the look on your face, I'm going to say its been a long while." I speculate as I walk over to the bed side table to pick up my phone. I already have two missed calls from Kent, three from Charles and one missed call, two texts from my brother. "Well aren't I popular today." I quietly say to myself.
"Well, your the one going through all the exciting stuff. Of course everyone is worried about you." Evan says teasingly.
"Great, now I'm the one stressing everyone out." I said checking a new text message from Charles. "They need me up stairs." I say and head towards the door, five minutes later I step into Kent's apartment and head down the hall and into his office."Finally, why haven't you returned our calls?" Charles ask sounding worried and irritated.
"I took a shower, I don't have my phone attached to my hip when I do that." I say sarcastically and head over to Kent's desk and pick up the folder he's looking at to figure out why it was so urgent I come up.
"It's not in there, no I need you to go to a couple of meetings for me, since I will be heading in for further investigations or something or other. I'm going to need you to handle some business while I'm away. Unfortunately these meetings are very important, not that I don't have the utmost faith in you but these are the peace talks I'm talking about here." Kent tries to explain.
"What do you mean the peace talks, the vampire, human, immortal, peace talks? Well that's just frigging fantastic and why did they choose to do this now?" I ask exasperatedly and start pacing along the wall of windows, I guess this means ill get to meet my father without suspicion. I wonder if that's why this is happening because of him.
"I don't know, but you are the only person that knows my job as well as I do, maybe and the only one I can trust to do this thing right and not screw it up. So you will go and do my job, and that's, that, you leave tonight to meet with the human representative in the morning and from there Charles has the rest of the information and here are the files you will need, study up!" He says handing me a thick hand full of files and leading me out of his office.
