Serena cut him off, her voice weary.
"There's nothing left for us to talk about. Either you let me go today, or you lock me up for the rest of my life. But let me tell you something. If you choose the second option, one day you'll be looking at a corpse."
Julian's body stiffened. He stared at Serena, the woman he had loved for ten years, and suddenly understood that she meant every word.
If he forced her back today, she would truly die in front of him. The realization filled him with a fear he had never felt before. Almost instinctively, he released her wrist and even stepped back.
Serena rubbed the red marks on her wrist and walked toward the boarding gate.
"Serena." Julian's hoarse voice called from behind her. "If I told you I really love you, would you believe me?"
