Chapter Two ~MATTEO ANDRE JAMES~ “There's been a change in the contest, Matteo,” Joe muttered as he walked into the living room, holding out two glasses, one of which I knew was for me. “Change?” I asked as I arched up a brow toward him. He got to where I was seated and handed me a glass of wine before settling down beside me. I hated change. I didn't like to deal with change but I was going to handle it if it came, anyway. “Yes, change. I know you won't like it, " He sighed as he drew back to bring out his phone. He typed something on it before he handed me the phone. I frowned as I took it from him, my eyes scanning the content on the phone screen. “They added a clause?” I asked, my eyes widening a bit as I handed him back the phone which he took eagerly. “That was what I saw. I was so shocked when I saw it. It was like they upped the game this year. They want the participants interested to get amateur dancers, preferably of the opposite gender that has never been heard of in the industry. That's who they want us to scout for and bring into the competition.” He explained and I sighed, taking in his words. “Well, you are the manager. Handle it, Joe.” I ordered and he was quick to nod his head in response. “When I mean you handle it, it means that I want you to do that fast for me. The competition is in a short while and I don't have the patience to train someone stupid. You already know that so be careful when you select for me.” I expatiate and he nodded again. “I already started my search, ” He said and I nodded. Joe just knew what I needed and when I needed it. It was why I made him my manager. He knew and understood me the way I wanted him to. Every two years, a dance competition more like a large contest called DBR is hosted in the world where all dancers from the world come together to contest. It was hard making a name for yourself and winning in the competition. But what I want, I always get. And I wanted to win this competition. Usually, there had never been clauses like that in the rules and guidelines but this year, things were changing as the competition was getting even tougher. It was even better for me. I loved to grow like that. I downed the rest of the wine in the glass and placed the empty glass on the table. I cracked my knuckles and got on my feet, dangling my keys in my hand. I threw it at Joe and he caught it effortlessly. “We are leaving now?” He asked as he glanced around the large room. I made a gruff sound as I grabbed my jacket. When he saw that I was ready, he stood up from the table, clapped his hands together and a maid appeared to clear the table. Joe started to lead the way out and I followed behind him. I could have easily handed the key to my driver but I wanted him to be the one to drive us to the place we were headed. When we stepped out of the suite and landed in the driveway, Joe rushed forward and unlocked the car. I got in and took my seat. He turned around and did the same. He started the ignition and sped the car out of the driveway into the street. The car was thrown into total silence which was just the way I wanted it. Joe knew better than to engage me in stupid conversations. I took out my phone and quickly typed a text to the person we were going to meet. We were soon stuck in the traffic but it hardly lasted more than three minutes before it moved again and we moved too. We were in Chicago and as much as I had no business here, we were here anyway for the meantime. At least, before the competition began. I had to admit though, the city was pretty interesting. Just really not my scene. Joe drove into the open park and that was when I realized that we were there. Since he knew his way around more than I did, I stayed in the car while he went out to see who we wanted to meet. My phone chimed and I glanced at the screen on seeing that she had replied. Quickly, I informed her that Joe was on his way to get her. I was still there in the car waiting for Joe who seemed to be taking longer than usual. After a while, I started to suspect that something was wrong and got out of the car. What could be taking them so long? As I walked around the park, my eyes quickly scanned the environment in search of the full-bearded guy but I didn't see him anywhere in sight. I started to text him to ask him what was taking him so long when out of nowhere someone bumped into me, spilling the contents of her cup on me. “s**t!” I veered backward, irritated by the lady's clumsiness. She took a step back too while rubbing her forehead which I guessed she must have bumped somehow. “Oops!” She giggled. “I'm so sorry, ” She apologized, a sly smile I knew too well on her face. Before I could blink, she was out of my sight again. I blinked as I wondered what had just happened. I was even starting to question if anyone had bumped into me but I did see a lady wearing black. Everything had happened within a nanosecond. I walked back toward the car and got my hands on the wipes in the car to wipe off the stain her drink had done on me. I hated situations like this. She was only lucky she scurried away so fast before I gave her a piece of my mind. It was while I was rolling up the sleeves of my shirt that an alarm went off in my brain as I glanced at my naked wrist. My Cartier expensive Rolex wristwatch was gone.
