Chapter Three.
~CHELSEA NIA DEJA~
I laughed as I walked back toward the girls, right after I tucked my new accessory into the pocket of my jacket. It wasn't that I meant to take it. It was just so shiny and pretty that I couldn't resist not swiping it away from him.
Was I a criminal?
Nah, I'd rather not call myself that.
I giggled quietly, a beautiful smile on my face. When I got to the hood earlier, the babes said they were going to town to make a video Janice was invested in. They invited me and I was more than glad to join in.
So, we came around and we had been fooling around a lot. I danced for a while and was just taking a break when I noticed the insanely attractive guy alight from the car.
Sure, the car's model had caught my attention when they drove in earlier but I didn't pay much attention to it because I was dancing with my girls then.
“What are you so giggly about?” Janice asked as I walked back toward the girls. Tricia and Lia were moving to music playing from the speakers while Quinn was busy videoing them.
“I caught a fortune, ” I winked at Janice as I stepped in beside her. The insanely attractive tattoo on her arm had me staring for a moment. Janice was always flaunting her tattoo. Granted that she was the show-off kind of person. Even the way she dresses is revealing.
At the moment, she was donning a black jean bum which she matched with a white crop top that had the inscription 'bad b***h' displayed on it. Since Janice was on the tall side, she had these long legs that could turn 'em heads.
“Never get tired of admiring this beauty?” She flipped her non-existent hair and I laughed. She had cut her hair a few months back. Now, she had it dyed in the color wine and it just managed to stay as a crew cut. It fitted her bitchy side perfectly.
“You wish, " I snorted and she rolled her eyes. I laughed before fixing my gaze on the ladies dancing. They weren't showing any particular moves but they were doing great.
I decided to spin things around for them a little.
I signaled Quinn to tell her that I was coming in. She saw me in time and managed to angle the camera in my direction while I walked into their middle with swag.
I didn't recognize the song playing but it did not stop me from doing some random dance moves I imagined in my head. Sometimes, just rolling with the song and moving to the beats.
At first, it was just I dancing again but later, Lia and Trish were glad to join me. Even Janice came in at some point. When the song ended and the dance ended as well, we received applause from an audience we didn't know about.
I stood, panting slightly as I collapsed on the mat. Stamina was one thing I was still struggling with in the exercise routine. Lia settled down beside me, grinning from ear to ear.
“That was amazing, babes!” Trish squealed, her white teeth on display as she jumped down on us. I squeaked, laughing lightly.
“It was spectacular!” That was Quinn as she came to settle down beside me, resting her whole frame on me.
“This should get Janice the followers and engagements she needs,” I mumbled as I looked around the park. It was kind of crowded with kids running around and adults talking at the top of their voices.
“It will, ” Lia shrugged. I sat up properly when I sighted Januce walking toward us with a tray of drinks. She got to where we were seated and placed down the tray before us. I quickly grabbed my share.
I sucked on my straw, enjoying the strawberry-flavored smoothie I had chosen. We maintained comfortable silence for a moment, Just glancing around and basking in the serene noise.
“Why were you upset this morning?” Lia asked and I almost groaned since I knew that she was talking to me. When I got to the hood this morning, I was no longer angry but anyone, especially my friends could still see that I was upset.
“Do you never forget something?” I groaned.
“Maybe not, ” Trish answered in her place while rolling her eyes.
“No, never,” Lia grunted, a sly smile on her face.
“Start talking!” Janice snapped her fingers at me while Quinn sat up to stare at me. I grumbled while muttering incorrigibles beneath my breath.
“Okay, fine. Sloane pissed me off this morning.” I frowned as I bit down On my straw. I hated that feeling of getting intimidated by their presence.
“You never let her get to you. Besides, what did she do? We can f**k her up, yunno?” Quinn was quick to say, making me smile.
“Nah, I will handle it. She was just making talks about how and what she has achieved. And how I have none.” I dragged my straw in my mouth again and gulped down my smoothie.
“b***h, ” Janice spat in anger. She didn't like Sloane, everyone knew that.
“You really should get a job, Chel. You need to get a job.” Lia mumbled and I frowned.
“Not when the last one screwed me over, ” I shook my head in disagreement, immediately debunking her statement.
“There are multiple jobs you can take on in town, Chel. You need to get a job.” Trish pointed out.
“I don't need a f*****g job to succeed. You guys, just drop it!” I snapped, feeling irritated already. It wasn't like I didn't want to have a job but I couldn't. I would just risk having the same thing happen again.
“Speaking of jobs, I have one to get to–” Janice stopped to glance at her wristwatch which was strapped to her wrist. “–About now if I want to arrive on time.” She informed us, immediately picking herself up from the mat.
“And I have a boyfriend to meet, ” Trish was on her feet too. I turned toward Quinn and Lia but they just shrugged.
“You know we have a*****e to attend to.” They snorted in unison and I nodded.
“Chel, you have to take me there. I'm going to be late if I try to get a cab.” Janice told me as she grabbed her sling bag. My eyes did a slow crawl over her outfit as I bobbed my head to the side.
“Is that what you are wearing?” I asked her.
“Yes, ” She smiled. “I will just slip on the T-shirt when I get there.” She told me. I didn't argue with her, I just checked to make sure my key was with me before we started to walk toward where I had my motorcycle parked.
When we got there, I settled on my ride and she took the backseat. I kicked start the engine, smiling at the revving sound. Then, I hit the road again.
★. ★. ★.
My grip on the handle tightened as I drew closer and closer to my house. I didn't want to come home yet. I didn't want to return home but seeing as all my friends had something important to do with their life at the moment, I decided to come home and do the one thing that was very important to me.
And that was to come home and sleep.
But now, as I drew closer and closer to the house, I wasn't so sure again. I knew Sloane would be gone by now and the guys would probably be somewhere meeting business dealers; they weren't what was bothering me.
It was the fear of having to meet Dad that was killing me. Being a retired general, he ruled the house with an iron hand and fist. But all that didn't stop me from turning out the way I did. I guess that is what happens when you train someone the way I was brought up.
Before I could think of turning back and going to the hood where I would join Liam and his crew to paint the walls of the streets, I was already hitting the break button and pulling to a stop in front of the house.
I sighed and jumped down after pushing the helmet out of my face. I placed it where it stood and wheeled my car back into the garage. I had nowhere to go today, so, I was sure that I wouldn't be stepping out of the house.
I made my way into the house, trying to steady my erratic heartbeat and fix my impassive expression properly with a sweet smile that had always worked for me. Just like I expected, my mum was waiting in the living room for me.
“Chelsea Nia Deja, what the hell is your problem?” She started as soon as I walked into the house as she got up from the couch to glare at me.
“Not now, mum.” I made to sidestep her and walk away but she didn't move. Instead, she blocked my path to stop me from moving. I wasn't in for all of these today.
“Not now? So, when is Chelsea? What is wrong with you?” She snapped, her voice rising and her glare intensifying.
“Mum, " I chuckled softly. “Relax. Don't get yourself worked up. I don't want your blood pressure getting high.” I patted her cheeks sweetly and she flung my hands away. Great, she was angry.
“Chelsea!” She wagged a finger at me and I sighed, my sweet smile morphing into a frown.
“Why are you even home?” I folded my arm across my chest. “Aren't you supposed to be at your gym house?” I questioned. My mom had a gym house; the largest in the town.
I had to admit that we were wealthy in our family.
“Rachel is there, handling it for me. Sloane is at work while your brothers are having business meetings.” Mum gritted her words out at me, harshly. It was like she was trying to insinuate something.
“Great!” I held my arms out in the air. “f*****g great, mum. I have this big house to myself.” I laughed before sidestepping her to plop down on the couch.
“Jesus!” Mum whispered as she covered her face with her hands, sounding exasperated and drained. She shook her head while biting on her lower lip. I worried her head would fall off if she kept that up. “What am I going to do with you?” She cried and I chuckled, finding the scene amusing.
She was talking like something was wrong with me.
I wondered why they always loved to do that.
All of them.
Mum opened her mouth to speak again when the buzzer went off and the doorbell rang. I glanced toward it while wondering who it was that was at the door.
“Chelsea, get the door.” She exhaled and settled down on the couch, the muscles on her face relaxing.
“Where is May?” I asked the housekeeper instead. She should be the one getting the door and not me. I was not rude but I was too lazy at the moment.
“Chelsea, I said you should get the DOOR!” Mum screamed. I stilled watching her for a second, her labored breath as she panted. Then, I blinked and got off the couch.
“I'm getting it,” I told her as I moved toward the door. When I threw the door open and took in the face of the uninvited guest, I stood frozen in shock.
