Alex closed the box, tucking one flap under the other so that it would stay securely shut. She put it in the closet next to her suitcases and used her foot to push it further back. She needed to do a final sweep of the apartment to make sure she hadn’t forgotten anything, so she wouldn’t have to come back. “So, were you even going to tell me you were leaving?” Jill said from behind her. Alex jumped, not realizing she’d come in. “Or were you just going to leave?” “What are you doing home?” Alex asked, ignoring the question. “I have my counseling appointment this evening and had something I wanted to discuss with you before I went.
