Alex pulled a bag of shrimp from the freezer and ripped it open. She poured the contents into a bowl of warm water, so they would thaw slowly. She planned to surprise Jill with stir-fry, one of her favorites. Jill had called to say she was leaving work to meet clients at the old shoe factory on her way home. The factory was only about ten minutes away, so Alex was hurrying to finish the prep work. Alex was determined to make the weekend a special time, hoping to heal the wounds from their argument on Wednesday night. She couldn’t blame Jill for being angry. She’d finally told Jill that she was leaving early Monday morning to close the Florida deal.
