Alex put her hand on Jill’s arm and waited for her to look up. Alex’s eyes still held their warmth, but they also showed concern. “I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to scare you. I was teasing. I work at the gym a couple blocks down from the park. It was a stupid joke since you didn’t know that.” Jill smiled, appreciating the ease in which Alex offered an apology. Too many people thought apologizing showed weakness, so they rarely did it. Jill looked at Alex, noting she certainly didn’t look weak.
