“I can understand that. What can we do?”
“I want to hunt him down and kick the s**t out of him.”
“As much as I agree with you, I promised Jill to keep you out of trouble. You can’t do anything stupid, as much as you may want to. It would only make the situation worse.”
“I know, but she won’t leave him. I offered her and the girls my place, and she said no. All she would tell me was that it was complicated, and she didn’t have it in her to talk about it.” Alex started to put the beer to her lips, but stopped. “I swear, ‘it’s complicated’ may be the most loaded phrase ever.”
“Isn’t it typical in these situations? The victim keeps returning to their abuser over and over. I think it’s some kind of sick cycle.”
