Jill watched impatiently as Jenna and Trina half-heartedly picked up the toys littering the living room floor. Everything needed to be cleaned up before they left for swimming, or Steve would be furious when he got home. Jill snapped at the girls, and then she felt bad. “I’m sorry, girls. I’m not myself this afternoon.” “It’s because we won’t see Alex anymore, isn’t it?” Jenna said. Jill’s mouth dropped open. “How did you know that?” “You’re happy now since we met Alex, but we can’t let anyone know about her. When swimming is over tonight, it’ll go back to the way it was before.
