In order to end Alex’s questioning, Jill reminded her they needed to deal with the problem at hand. Jill needed to come up with a plausible explanation for where she had been when she returned home.
“Don’t you think it would be better to talk about what we can do so you don’t have to return home?” Alex said in a measured voice.
Jill noticed the change in Alex and saw her internal struggle. She knew Alex was frustrated and was doing everything in her power not to lose her cool. Alex had every right to yell and scream and tell her to get the hell out of her house, but she knew Alex wouldn’t.
“Not today, Alex.”
“I fail to understand why you would go back there.” Alex fought to keep herself controlled. Despite her best efforts, her forehead was deeply creased.
