Georgina woke up to persistent knocking. Morning light streaked in through the French windows. The knocking returned, loud and clearly impatient.
"I'm coming," Georgina called out. She rolled to the edge of the insanely soft bed and tried to swing her legs down, but her short stature betrayed her. She fell right onto the floor.
Scrambling up, she pulled her gaping bathrobe tighter around her body, padded to the door, and jerked it open with the annoyance of someone who hates being interrupted while sleeping.
The man outside looked familiar. Then last night hit her like a sledgehammer and she scowled.
Of all things, she transmigrated.
Her mind flashed to the three million. A goofy grin spread. She hugged herself.
Maybe she didn’t mind it after all.
Georgina looked up. Arnold was stone-faced. The only reaction was from the girl behind him. Lavender eyes wide, watching her warily.
Composing herself, Georgina cleared her throat. "Um, do you need anything?"
Arnold pulled an envelope and a car key from his pocket, handing them over to her. "Alpha Ester told me to give them to you." He gestured to the girl. "And she’s your personal maid." Without another word, he turned and left.
Curious, Georgina opened the envelope and saw something that made her practically bounce with joy. A black card. She rubbed her eyes to verify it was real. It remained.
"Oh, if this is a dream," Georgina grinned maniacally, pressing the card to her cheek, "then no one dare wake me up."
"Um, Ma’am?"
Georgina snapped back to reality, meeting the gaze of the girl, who looked like she would rather be anywhere else than here.
"Oh, right. Come in." Georgina stepped back, allowing her to enter, and shut the door. "What is your name?"
"Maurice, Ma’am."
Georgina waved a hand dismissively. "No need for the 'Ma’am' stuff. Just call me Geor... I mean, Leah."
Maurice shook her head stubbornly. "I wouldn’t dare to do that, ma’am."
"But I insist."
Maurice remained obstinate.
Georgina gave up.
Tossing the black card and key onto the bed, Georgina padded to the bathroom. After finishing her business, she returned to the bedroom to find that Maurice had laid out three stunning outfits.
"These are the clothes I’d say would look fabulous on you while you attend university, ma’am," Maurice noted.
Georgina blinked in surprise. "What university?"
"Sable University."
Never had she heard that name in her past life. Oh, right! That was the name of the school where the female lead met her third harem member: Reymond Saber, the dashing, brave professor.
Georgina picked a black sleeveless dress with a floor-length feather jacket and heels.
After her shower, Maurice did her makeup and hair until she barely recognized herself in the mirror.
She looked stunning.
Taking a bag, Georgina subtly checked the subject timetable Darlea had sent along with the messages yesterday, then went to the bookshelf to grab the textbooks she would need today.
Once ready, Maurice led her down into a jaw-dropping, enormous dining room. The occupants' conversation died the instant she entered.
Nathaniel’s face scrunched up as if she personally owed him money, his spoon freezing mid-air. Ester didn’t even spare her a glance.
Maurice seated her at the opposite end of the table.
Remembering her morning gifts, Georgina offered a sincere acknowledgement. "Mr. Lacrosse, I’m truly grateful for the meal and the car key you sent to me this morning. Thank you."
Ester didn’t reply.
Georgina didn’t let the cold shoulder bother her. Maurice went to the kitchen to retrieve her breakfast, setting down a plate of smoked salmon and caviar. Georgina's mouth watered like a starved leopard spotting prey after a three-day fast.
"Oh my God," she moaned, her eyes closing as her taste buds exploded into rapturous pleasure. "This is so good!" Her toes curled inside her high heels. May would never believe I’m eating this.
A sharp huff made her open her eyes. Nathaniel was eyeing her with pure distaste, glaring across the space. "It’s just smoked salmon and caviar."
"But the taste is... it’s just amazing! Have a second bite simply to confirm the phenomenon!" Georgina interrupted herself, lost in the flavor.
"Haven't you tasted it before?" Nathaniel asked coolly.
"Yup,"
Then she realized the immense error of her words. Ester cast an unreadable, piercing glance at her that made her want to slap her own mouth.
"That’s probably because your chefs couldn't produce something this good," Nathaniel boasted with a smirk.
Georgina quickly nodded in agreement. As if she had ever tasted something this expensive in her previous life!
Ester and Nathaniel left the room before Georgina finished eating, allowing her to finally breathe properly.
When she told Maurice she didn’t feel like driving, a driver was brought to her. She was pretty sure they thought she was incredibly spoiled, but what could she do? She simply didn't know how to drive.
Georgina stared out the window, gaping at everything they passed.
They stopped at a massive gate with a grand arch. Guards lifted the roadblock and waved them in.
Panic hit. She had no clue where her class was, or which building to stop at.
"Where would you like me to drop you, Ma’am?" the driver asked, his black suit crisp and his expression thoroughly bored.
Not knowing what to say, Georgina responded, "Just stop the car by the side. I need to contact someone."
He pulled over immediately. Georgina tried to call and message Darlea, but an automated error informed her the number did not exist.
What. The. Heck?
A sharp knock came from the side window, jolting her so hard that she jumped. The driver let out a low growl, lasering the beaming girl outside with a glare that instantly killed her smile.
Georgina rolled the window down, and the girl burst out, "I’m so sorry, Darlea! I didn’t mean to startle you, but we’re almost late for class. You definitely don’t want to get on Professor Whitney’s bad side if you’re late."
Georgina could have kissed her.
Grabbing her bag, she stepped out of the vehicle and gave the driver instructions on when to pick her up. The girl quickly corrected her timing by a one-hour interval based on the actual schedule Darlea had provided, and the driver sped off.
The girl turned to her, eyes narrowing playfully. "So, how dare you get married and not breathe a single word of it to me?"
