Megan Pov
Myself and Yusef have gotten into a good routine in the woods. We wake at sunrise and hunt some food for the day. After having some breakfast we start out with tracking. We follow every lead, speak to the rogues around the areas. Most rogues are actually just lone wolves trying to live their lives in peace. A few have tried to attack us however, Yusef is an amazing fighter. Not to mention I have been trained as the Alpha’s daughter.
After spending most of the day tracking we find a spot to rest near water. I usually wash up first whilst Yusef stands guard. Then he does the same.
After we’re both cleaned up we have an evening meal.
Then we settle to sleep under the stars. The first night was bitter cold and Yusef was worried about attacks in the night. So since then we have shared one sleeping bag. We sleep back to back.
I’m actually so used to it now that I don’t think I would be able to sleep if I stopped doing it.
It took me a few days to work out that Yusef has quite a dry sense of humour. I can see why he and Reggie were friends in school.
Most evenings are spent story telling. He has told me every detail that Reggie said about us. He always thought we would end up being mates with Reggie. I try to hide the slip in my smile but he picked up on it. He listened to every word attentively about my feelings toward Reggie.
It is not that I am indifferent toward him. It’s just that I see Reggie as an annoying brother. I don’t see him as anything more. I don’t think I ever will.
I am so happy for Jessabelle. She has been through a lot of s**t, let’s face it, she literally died. So if she ends up mated to a good man like Reggie, then I will happily enjoy the rest of my days alone.
Rejecting your mate is not something done very often. However, my wolf is surprisingly on board with rejecting Reggie.
My attention snaps back to reality when a low growl sounds from the trees. I drop low in a crouch waiting for the owner of that growl to reveal themselves. My gaze slides to Yusef, he is about ten paces to my left and mimicking my position. He nods to let me know I should stay put. He slowly starts to move forward, scouring for danger.
“It’s okay,” he calls after a minute. “Friendly.” Is all he says to let me know it is a rouge.
A friendly rogue.
I walk over to find them having a casual conversation. My eyes immediately scan over the girl before us, she is around my age. Short dark hair but a pretty face. She is stark naked of course.
‘She shouldn’t be’ Eid snaps with teeth bared.
What’s that all about?
Heat is rising up my neck but I don’t know why. I can’t quite pinpoint the cause.
Yusef must say something funny because she throws her head back in laughter, then she places her hand on Yusef’s arm.
I narrow my eyes at her and feel myself becoming infuriated by their exchange.
Ashamed by my reaction I turn and walk away.
“Where you going Meg?” Yusef calls but I ignore him and continue on.

I spent the entire afternoon listening to that rogue b***h flirting with Yusef. It only took me about ten minutes to realise that I was jealous.
I roll out my own sleeping bag for the first time tonight and snuggle down inside. Yusef is already in his sleeping bag so he just watches me with confusion.
“Everything alright?” He asks when I turn my back on him.
“Why wouldn’t it be?” I respond with a snap. I could kick myself for responding like that. I take a deep breath to calm myself.
‘You don’t need to calm anything!’ Eid snides. She can be very short tempered. We are almost like polar opposites, myself and Eid.
“Is it to do with Emerald coming to see us?” He asks softly, trying to help me offload like usual.
“No,” I reply flatly.
Honestly I do feel bad for snapping at him but I just don’t have it in me to be tolerant when I’m in this mood.
“I just want some time on my own tonight,” I add when he remains quiet.
“Oh okay,” he says but it sounds dejected. Sad.

A shuffling sound causes me to wake in the middle of the night. I am still tucked into my sleeping bag so open my eyes with caution. Before me is a Sandy coloured wolf, it’s eyes a dark shade of brown. It’s a beautiful wolf and I feel my body flushing with heat as I look into it’s eyes.
I slowly turn my head and notice Yusef’s sleeping bag is empty. I turn back to the wolf when it makes a little yelp sound.
The wolf steps back a few paces before shifting back into Yusef.
My mouth is hanging open in shock.
“It’s your birthday?” I accuse him, still shocked.
“I didn’t realise how many days we had been out here,” he says in defence.
I suddenly realise I am staring at his naked body, and my body is flushing at the sight, so I quickly cover my eyes.
“Mate,” Yusef says and I think I am hearing things.
“What?” I ask, waiting for him to confirm I am crazy.
“You’re my mate Megan.” He says.
I peek at him again, his chest is rising and falling with rapid breaths. I climb out of the sleeping bag and walk over to him.
I slowly lift my hand before placing just one fingertip on his arm. The tingles that shoot through me head straight between my legs.
‘Mate. Mate. Mate.’ Eid is chanting in my mind whilst practically drooling.
He slides his hand into my hair, along my neck and the tingles cause my eyes to flutter closed.
My heart rate sky rockets when I feel his heat move closer, his breath tickles my face as he draws closer to my lips.
“Can I kiss you?” He asks in a voice so quiet, it is barely a whisper.
“Please!” I practically beg.
