AAMNA POV'S. I settled into the taxi and gave the driver my address. He glanced at me, and I caught a glimpse of myself in the rearview mirror, my hair was a tangled mess. I quickly pulled it into a messy bun and checked again; I looked presentable now. I put on my headphones and started playing 'I Don't Care' by Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran. I hummed along, feeling carefree, and almost forgot about the earlier encounter. When the car stopped for a security check, I poked my head out with a smile. The security guard chuckled and greeted me warmly. "Miss Yusuf, welcome home! Any good news?" he asked, flashing a bright smile. I winked at him. "I'll be back later." The car drove through the gates and halted in front of my house. I paid the driver and rushed inside, feeling happy and relieved. As I entered the house, I was met with an empty sitting room. My mood shifted to disappointment, and I quickly pretended something was wrong with me. I slumped onto the couch, covering my face with my palm. Just then, my mother's voice called out. "Ah ah, when did you return home, my girl?" I removed my hand, feigning sadness, and gazed up at her. Her expression faltered, and she looked concerned. She quickly walked over to me. "Don't worry, baby, you'll get admission next year," she said softly. My father emerged from the kitchen, wearing a berbie apron he is holding a pan. The sight almost made me laugh, but I managed to stifle it. "I told you, apply to polytechnic or any federal university in the country..." he began, but I cut him off. "Hey, Inspector, back to sender! I hate it when you say such things. And by the way, that apron looks good on you," I teased, knowing my mom had probably forced him to wear it. He pointed the pan at me, a mock-threatening gesture. "Don't even start, Aamna," he warned. "Try me, Inspector," I said, grinning mischievously. "And yes... I got admission!" I announced, pulling out an envelope. My mom let out a half-scream of excitement before her expression turned stern. She playfully hit me on the shoulder. "Ouch!" I exclaimed, laughing. She snatched the envelope from me and read the contents, her face lighting up with joy. Dad approached us, and Mom handed him the letter. 'I'm a student of Nile University!' I half-yelled, barely containing my excitement. Dad quickly enveloped me in a warm hug, congratulating me. Mom glared at me, pretending to be upset. "Silly girl, don't pull such a joke on me!" she scolded, but her eyes sparkled with amusement. "Come on, did you see your face? It was priceless!" I teased, chuckling. I playfully pulled her cheek, and she couldn't help but laugh. We shared a warm hug. "Congratulations, my baby," she whispered. "Thank you so much," I replied, smiling. As we broke apart, I asked, "Where's that son of yours?" Mom smiled knowingly. "He left with Zayd an hour ago." I unpacked the items from the leather bag I brought from the supermarket, and Mom helped me sort everything out. Meanwhile, Dad returned to the kitchen to continue cooking. I mixed the chocolate and candies in a bowl and stored mine in my room. Then, I went house to house, sharing the good news with our neighbors and the workers. They prayed and rejoiced with me, and their warm congratulations filled my heart with joy. When I returned home, I found Mom engrossed in a TV show, and Dad dressed and ready to head out. He kissed my forehead, and then gave Mom a playful peck on the cheek. I groaned at the display of affection, feeling a bit embarrassed. "I'm going out,' he said, smiling. We nodded and i headed to my room to take a bath, feeling exhausted but elated after a long day. Today was truly the happiest day of my life, and I couldn't wait to relax and savor the moment.
