AAMNA POV'S Bobo started the car, and the radio blasted Eminem's 'Venom'. We all rapped along, enthusiastically belting out the lyrics. Although I wasn't the fastest, I knew the words well. "Volkswagen, tailspin, bucket matches my pale skin..." we rapped in unison. Hani, sitting next to Bobo in the front, turned to me with a teasing grin. "A.y, you suck, you're not even fast," she said, poking fun at my rapping skills. Instead of responding, I playfully flipped my middle finger at her, earning a chuckle from the others. "You wish," she said, grinning. "Ewww, I'm not a lesbian," Bobo and David chuckled, shaking their head. "Then keep your middle finger down I've got a better and bigger one already, do you hear the size too, I can tell you that." she teased. I playfully covered my ears, and Bobo burst out laughing. "Babe stop teasing her," Bobo said Did I forget to mention that Bobo and Hani are married? They're actually husband and wife, and they've been together since high school. It's a bit of a long story, but Hani's parents tragically passed away in a car accident. Before her dad died, he asked Bobo's dad who's his sibling to take care of his two daughters. He also arranged for Bobo to marry Hani, since they were close to each other and had feelings for one another. Since then, they've been inseparable. We continued rapping along to the music. We arrived in Kuje by 1:30 pm and drove into town, halting in front of the house. As we stepped out of the car. "Who did their birthday party at noon, is she five?" I said as we walked in. Hani exclaimed, "Here comes the birthday girl!" Lillian smiled and hugged us. "Happy birthday, Lillian!" Hani said, while the rest of us chimed in with "Happy birthday, Lili!" David handed Lillian a small gift, and they exchanged an awkward glance. They had broken up five months prior, but their on-again, off-again relationship was still complicated. Hani noticed the tension, "Are you two going to stand there looking at each other like you're forced to break up?" "Geez, babe, let them," Bobo said, trying to intervene. Hani continued, "I'm freaking tired; just get along already and continue eating each other out." Lillian shot back, "Jesus Hani, you really need to wash your mouth with goodness!" Hani smirked, "I'm just helping you two out." Lillian scoffed and shook her head, laughing despite herself. "You help?" Hani grinned "Bobo since when did your wife become a saint?" She tease at Hani, I laughed Bobo snicker David turn his head probably laughing Hani still ginning "Since when your behavior became the definition of hell, and I had to ascend to sainthood just to tolerate you." Bobo and I laughed Hani still keeping her smile knowing Lilian will never win, Lili smile fade and she frown "Is my f*****g birthday Hani" "I wished you as soon as I step in" Hani pull Lilian nose. "Come on I was just joking" "Fine, is my birthday plus I can't get mad at you. Thanks, guys, I miss you all so much," Lillian said, smiling warmly. "Help yourselves; I know you're all tired. And yes, I planned the birthday party now because some of you are far away, especially you," she added, looking at me. Bobo chimed in with a mocking tone, "Your question answered," and I shook my head good-naturedly as I handed her a gift. She set it aside with the others, and we spent the afternoon eating, dancing, and having a great time. As the sun began to set around 5 pm, I stepped out of the house for a stroll. It had been a while since I'd been here, and I was curious to see how things had changed. As I walked through the town, a few people recognized me and we exchanged greetings. Suddenly, a boy about 15 years old ran past me, and I recognized him as Emma. "Emma, Emma!" I called out, and he stopped, turning to look at me with a mixture of surprise and recognition. His face lit up with a laugh as he said. "Aamna, the backpack girl!" I recalled the time he had tried to steal my bag when I first arrived in town. I had chased him down, and he had eventually given up. Since then, whenever he saw me, he would greet me with a smile. "And the thief," I said with a grin, taking a step forward. Emma mirrored my movement, taking a step back. We repeated this dance twice, and I teased, "I came looking for you, and here you are, trying to run again." "I'm busy, as you can see," He said. "Come, it's just a quick gift. I'll give it to you and leave. After all is getting late," I added, digging into my pocket to pull out some money. Emma's face lit up with a wide smile as he reached for the cash. But I quickly grabbed his hand, holding it tight. "If you move, I'll call everyone," I warned. "Please let me go!" he begged, trying to wriggle free. "Nonsense, you steal again, huh? Come here," I said, holding firm. Emma tried to fight back, but a few people nearby stepped in to help me restrain him. Despite his surprising strength, I managed to reach into his pocket and pull out a wallet. It was made of expensive leather and looked heavy. "Emma, you won't change, will you? Where did you get this?" I demanded. "I don't know," he replied, eyes wide with fear. "I already expect your answer, don't worry, we will find out if I call the police," I threatened. Emma's eyes grew even wider as he realized the gravity of the situation. "Wait, wait, let's not do that nah," he pleaded in his pidgin accent. "It's just a wallet, and I no even take anything inside oooo." I raised an eyebrow. "If you don't want me to call the police, then show me the owner. Otherwise, I'll let this crowd deal with you."
