Short, stocky, old young girls in ill fitting trousers and scuffed heels barking orders at skinny boys pushing brigades of trolleys with no arses and grimy shirts half out. Buff fluff beards and greasy hair covering pimpled faces and bad teeth. Ties like twisted towropes around pale throats that never saw sunshine. Piles of tracksuit pants out for $5. Sweat shirts $6. Ugly t-shirts $3. Pull out a screwed up $10. Leave the trackies. Still $1 left for the pokies. Mel and Shane were pushing a pram at 15. They had completed the cycle. Shane had got a job at the local tyre place and Mel at K-Mart. They were a cliché. Kylie was born. Named after Kylie Minogue. What else? Jim recognised Mel as he was going through the check out.
