Chapter 10
.........
"Can I come in" he asked.
Without answering Lana left the door open and turned away from the door.
He entered and closed the door behind him,
He knew Lana was probably still upset so he just went to the point " Britney and I dated in business school, hut it wasn't serious because it was an arranged relationship by my father for public appeal, she made some advances back then but I wasn't interested, it ended after a year and when she saw that thing would never work between us she moved to New York and we didn't see each other again until we met again in Miami, I went there for a business trip and on the last weekend she suggested that we go for a drink, it's my fault for not seeing through her and we ended up overdrinking, am not sure how I got to her hotel room but I know I was too wasted to do anything and I left immediately I woke up the next morning. Lana i hate that I have given you a reason to doubt me in this marriage and I know we don't have any emotions backing this marriage but I am pleading with you to trust me just this once, please Lana" after speaking he headed for the door just the way he came but as he held the door knob he felt a slender arm abruptly wrap around his waist and hug him from behind, her body slammed against his back.
Lana couldn't stop her tears as she hugged him from behind, she couldn't hold it in anymore, "I have feelings for you, and that's why I overreacted, am Soo sorry for not trusting you Derrick" she sobbed as she held on to him from behind.
Stunned Derrick turned around to meet the sobbing figure, she looked so fragile and vulnerable in her attempt to avoid his eyes and staring at the floor instead, because she feared that if she looked at him she would she him staring at her like some weakling.
Somehow her current state warmed Derrick's heart in a way he never knew was possible, she telling him that she felt something even though she didn't say what specific feeling made him pleased though he didn't know why maybe because now he knew she didn't hate him as he had assumed.
He raised her chin up so that they both stared into each other's eyes and he saw raw emotions in her eyes and her he felt like her tears had many unsaid secrets, and it hurt him to see her tears so he used his thumbs to carefully wipe her tears away, then he brought her head closer to himself and hugged her.
With her head on his chest they were in that position for a while both getting lost in the warmth of each other, silence prominent in the room.
"You should go to bed, you must be tired" Derrick finally said staring at her face, it was true that she was tired but she didn't want to leave, his warmth, his dominant scent that she seemed to like "spend the night here please" she said with pleading eyes.
"Mmm" came his affirmation and just like that he tucked her in and they slept in each other's arms for the first time, it was peaceful and serene.
..........
When Lana woke up the next morning Derrick was not in bed with her but his scent still lingered on the bed and a smile crept to her face as she thought her in his arms the night before.
When she came downstairs for breakfast she thought he wouldn't be there because it was a Saturday and he almost never stayed home even on Sundays but he was standing at the floor to ceiling window staring at the yard lost in thought, he was in a white shirt and black pants, his body looked so alluring and Lana couldn't help but smile as she wondered, how she got such a perfect husband, she moved and hugged him from behind "Aren't you late for work"
"I am but I wanted to have breakfast fast with you first" Derrick said turning around and putting his arms around her waist so that no space was left between them.
Lana smiled and Derrick continued, "Lana I know we haven't been in the best of relationships but I want us to start over, let's begin together okay"
"Yes, I'd love that " Lana said with an even wider smile.
She was extremely happy, it felt like she was actually going to have a new beginning with the man of her dreams.
Derrick was also optimistic since both of them had disliked the marriage from the start, at a point she even made it clear that she hated him, so he didn't even make an effort to get to know her, but now that she had feelings for him, he was willing to make things work and was certain that he could get to know her better and maybe the marriage could work.
