A surge of anger washed over me, like a flood ready to sweep everything away. How could Bobby say those things? And more importantly, where did they come from? There was no way Bobby came up with those words on his own—an adult must have poisoned his thoughts.
I knew I needed to intervene immediately, but I didn't want to put additional pressure on Dennis in front of the other kids. Taking a deep breath, I tried to keep calm and stepped forward, pretending as though I had just appeared.
