  As I began to calm down, the realization of how inappropriate my behavior had been hit me hard. I had been leaning on Jackie too much, and it made me uncomfortable. Even though I'd been divorced and a single mother for the past five years, I always told myself I needed to be strong, independent.   I quickly pushed Jackie away, my face flushing with awkwardness. "Thank you, Jackie," I muttered, my voice trembling. "I really appreciate that you came to help, but... I need to stand on my own."   He looked at me with those same caring, protective eyes. "Elwyn, it's okay. You don't have to do everything on your own. Everyone needs help sometimes, and I'll always be here for you."   I lowered my head, feeling torn and uneasy.
