Axel
Stepping into the study, the tension in the air rose to it’s max. Everyone was exhausted from last night’s party, yet we were still sore from last week’s experience. No one was making any eye contact whatsoever; the silence was not exactly awkward, it was just none of us knew when, what, and how to speak.
“Now you did get back Adrastea.”
“You mean that stupid hexagon that nearly killed us- yeah.” I muttered.
“I want to introduce you to- Beatrix.” Our eyes immediately shifted to a Beatrix, the girl who kept Adrastea. She looked in her 20s or so. African, with afro curls pulled back into a neat ponytail, her eyes tinting brownish- grey.
“Wait what is she doing here?”
“That was a test- a test for you to become the true guardians-”
“What the heck?”
“Yes, you are here to be guardians of the Lightning Clan, one of the most powerful clans in the spirit world.”
“Wait que?”
“Yes, today, you will all enter the spirit world, meet your ancestors and create your vial.” I felt like my jaw felt straight onto the floor- practically dragging it to the back of our campus, the misty end of it.
~My eyes shifted back and forth as we approached a wall of mist. I felt nothing- never, never like this. My gut flipped a full 360 as I clenched and unclenched my fists.
Silence, so silent that I could hear the slightest chirps from afar.
My skin tinkled to the burning mist as I passed. Stretching out was a single grassland, surrounded by trees, all up to the horizon. A blue glow tinkered slightly under my feet, the guardians gathering and surrounding me and the trainees.
Silence.
Darkness.
I shook nervously, lowering my head to face the ground. No one spoke or may I say- nothing could be heard. I felt as if all my senses had shut down.
The blue glow rose again, this time rising higher into abyss. The ground below me faded, dissolving into thin air. I held my breath as my weight lightened until it was none. My stomach churned to me falling into the void. Holding my eyes shut, all I could do was fall. My feet hit the soft pressure of air, a cushion of air, suspending me six inches from the ground.
“Welcome- welcome to the Lightning Clan.” A voice glowered over my shoulder.
Opening my eyes, the blue glow began to fade. Other’s state of shot was as deep as mine, if not, worse.
My habit returned, scanning the entire place- or at least up to where my vision would let me. An abyss spread to the horizon; darkness wrapped around me like the wings of a bat. I could make out faded outlines of coves.
I turned around as footsteps echoed until it hurt. The blue glow returned- yet this time it was light.
He unveiled his cloak, held out his hands and smiled.
“Wait- what” My voice quivered.
“Yes Axel- the time has come; you are a guardian of the Lightning Clan. At the start of the Lagency, 10 ancestors died and created their own realm in the spirit world. They kept their vows of protecting the portal to the Lighting Realm in separate vials, each carrying the vow of their element. Once a descendant of the Lagency drinks from the vial, they have the ability and powers to respawn at their death. The descendants of the Lagency are not decided by their ability, but by their closest relative/ friend who has died and entered the spiritual world of the 10 creators of the Lagency. After the death of them, they gain a spiritual bond with them and eventually get an awakening to gain the potential to become powerful guardians. This happens every generation and keeps on going. The vial is an essential part of a guardian, and each guardian has their very own. If one of the vials go missing, all the guardians s lose part of their powers, but the vial master completely loses his/ her powers. The guardians are trained by the previous generation of guardians in the sacred grounds of the Lagency, hidden deep in Russia sealed with portal which only chosen descendants of the Lagency can enter. A the end of a guardian's training, they become a guardians of the vial and the Lightning Realm, one of the most powerful in spiritual world. New vials appear once a year under the elemental portal to the spirit world, this marks the end of a guardian's training.”
A blue glow appeared once again, so did nine other people. A cloud of smoke appears as each unveiled their cloaks. My eye widened in shock. My vial?
As the though cam across a small lump of clay did so too.
“Shape it.” A voice rang in my mind.
“Shape it…” The voice hissed again.
A look at the others told me they were hearing it too. I clenched my hand to the clay, it found its own way past me, appearing as a lightning bolt.
“Your weapon, your vial, unleash it to your full potential.”
“A toast to the true guardians!”
We drank from the vial, as the soft liquid went through my throat, a feeling of adrenaline kick in- then it faded, so did everything.
The feeling of freefalling was no longer appealing after that. Falling at top speed for a minute into a void then landing face first on mud hurt. I clicked my vial to my neck, exiting the woods with the others… What was this?
