Chapter 12: Nathan

"Aren't you going to eat that?" she pointed at my waffles, which I had forgotten about. I still had 2 waffles left on my plate. I raised an eyebrow, confused, "Nope, I'm full" "So..... if you are full, then..." she said, then stood up and grabbed my plate to her side while smiling while made me smile too "I thought you said it wasn't really good." I grabbed my plates back to my side without standing, perks of being tall "Hey, aren’t you full?" she said, pouting her lips and tried to grab it back from her side while I took it away from her once again "I don't want to stress. Like you said, the meal is really bad, so why do you want to eat mine again after you forced yourself to finish yours?" I said with a glint in my eye while smiling with the plates still in my hand She sat down back, drop her head down and said with her voice low "The food is not good. I just don't want to waste food. You know the economy is getting hard and all the other s**t happening in the world today and plus I'm full from everything that happened yesterday." “Hmmmm” I pretended to think. “But can’t you just admit that the waffles are nice” I asked with a smirk on my face, dropped the waffles back on my side on the table She pat my hands on the table softly, framing innocence “I just want to say the truth. I know it hurts your ego, but sometimes the truth is bitter.” Ahh why is she so stubborn? “Just take it” I said, pushing it to her “Thank you and you should also say thank you” she said and put a small piece of the waffle in her mouth without waiting for my response. I laughed, which made her look at her with her mouth full, making her look like a pufferfish. I laughed again, which made her annoyed, and she raised her fork at my face, making me stop instantly, trying my best to stop laughing. “Hey stop it. Why are you laughing?” She said with her mouth full “Nothing,” I said with a smile on my face now. She looked at me suspiciously and continued with her meal. “So where do you plan on..” I was interrupted a ringtone. I checked it wasn’t mine, so it must be hers. “Hey mum” Lara picked up the call, bringing the phone a little bit far from her face. Must be a video call. “Hey young lady, I hope you are up and not lazing out like a jobless child.” Wow! That’s a little great greeting from her mum. I just sat silently in my seat, keeping myself busy with my phone so I would not interrupt them. Even though my concentration was on her and her mum's conversation. “Mum, mum, stop it. As you can see, your lovely daughter is” she paused a little with her mouth open wide out of shock. “Did you just snort? Mama, I know why you snorted, so you can’t just say I am your lovely daughter?” She said, using her free hand to touch her chest, pretending to be hurt, which made me smile “Stop overreacting and show me what you are doing and where you are” her mum said. “As you can see, I am eating in a dining room,” Lara said, moving around the room. I think she saw me as Lara was moving her phone around. “Wait, is that my son-in-law? Give him the phone, let me talk to him,” her mum said through the phone, which made both me and Lara shock making me bring my head up straight to look her with a smirk because I know why but Lara recovered quickly and said in a whisper, which I could still hear her “Mama, there is no need, maybe another day” “There is a need. Nathan and I still have an unfinished conversation,” she said, which made Lara look shocked, looking at both her mum on the screen to me. Ohhh, she did not know I and her mum meeting last week after her recovery. “When did you two have a conversation? I did not see both of you together at the reception, so..” she said while still looking at both of us in shock. “That emm..” I tried to explain, but her mother beat me to it "Do you think I would not let you marry without talking to him first? We met last week. Leave that for another day. Just give him the phone." I don't really have the strength to speak to her about our last week's conversation. She kept on insisting on how I should try and change so that I can take over my father's position. I don't want her to spoil my plan. I stood up and started approaching the door backwards, which made Lara give me a side eye, smiling . "Mrs. Ellington, good day. We will continue my conversation later. My dad is calling me now". and I left without waiting for a reply. Lara will explain for me. I went to upstairs to my room to change my shorts now because I saw the way Lara was looking at me while I was walking out. As soon as I locked my door, I went straight to my bed and laid down flat on my back, looking at the ceiling silently. Lara is actually a good person to speak with, I know I can’t know her from just a little conversation but I just want to give her the benefit of the doubt. I just hope I won’t regret this.
