Chapter 7

639 Words
Ethan didn't grasp the scale of the disaster until he flew back. Pierce Biotech had fallen into complete chaos. The biotech chip in development had a critical flaw. After Lila heard that, her face turned pale. "Honey, Natalie worked on that chip before. If something went wrong, she must be responsible, right?" Ethan's brow tightened. No wonder Natalie divorced him so readily. Even though Natalie had already blocked him, Ethan still sent her message after message. Ethan: No wonder you chose to divorce me so easily. It turns out you left me with this huge mess. Ethan: Do you know the company is being sued because of you? Ethan: Do you know why no one else will hire you? It's because your skills are terrible, and your character is even worse. None of the messages received a response. Within a few days, clients had filed lawsuits, investors had pulled out, and cash flow had collapsed. Ethan contacted everyone he could, but he still couldn't save the company. Pierce Biotech was on the brink of bankruptcy and a forced asset auction. Even then, Lila still insisted on dragging him out to drink. At a private club, Lila comforted him, "Honey, you're capable. You can always make a comeback later." Ethan didn't answer. Lila added, "This is all Natalie's fault. She ruined the company. Now she's hiding and refusing to show her face. She's disgusting." Hearing this, Ethan tightened his grip on the glass in his hand. "I'm going to find her." Lila quickly said, "I'm going with you." Late that night, Ethan arrived at Clearwater Court. He knocked anxiously on the Hayes family's door. But Henry was the one who opened it. "Mr. Hayes, I'm looking for Natalie," Ethan said directly. Henry frowned. "Nat isn't here. If you need anything, call her." After saying that, Henry started to close the door. Lila stepped forward and blocked it. "Mr. Hayes, are you really still protecting your daughter?" Henry looked at the aggressive woman in front of him and immediately understood that she was the mistress who had ruined his daughter's marriage. His tone sharpened. "What do you mean, protecting my daughter? What did my daughter do wrong? The biggest mistake she ever made was marrying an ungrateful man like Ethan Pierce." Ethan's face flushed, then drained of color. He clenched his fists. "Mr. Hayes, you still don't know, do you? Natalie left me with a huge mess before she walked away. Now the company is about to collapse because of her." Then Ethan shouted into the house. "Natalie, I know you're inside! You must have seen the news too. Don't think the company will stop holding you accountable just because you're hiding!" At first, Henry was confused, but he soon pieced together what Ethan meant. He had also seen the recent news about Pierce Biotech's crisis. "Ethan Pierce, my daughter left Pierce Biotech long ago. You fired her. Your company is in trouble because of your own decisions." Lila laughed. "Like father, like daughter. No wonder Natalie still can't find work and is hiding at home. I guess the whole family is rotten." Henry's breathing grew labored. "You... What nonsense are you talking about?" Even then, Lila refused to stop. She stood in the doorway and shouted, "Everyone, come look at the Hayes family's daughter. She wasn't skilled enough, and she ruined someone else's company. Now she's hiding at home because she's too scared to face the consequences!" Ethan joined in. "Natalie, if you come out now, I might let this slide for the sake of old times." The commotion woke the neighbors. One neighbor heard the noise and looked surprised. "Why are you making such a scene? Natalie joined the National Research Institute long ago. A few days back, the Institute sent a car to take her to Arden City."
