I headed straight back to my motel, my mind a blur of thoughts. As if this day couldn't get any crazier.
Arriving at the motel, I stepped out from the cab when the loud blast of car horn sent a jolt through me. I spun around, to see Vincent parking his car and turning off the engine. He stepped out, his face twisted in fury as he walked towards me with eyes burning red.
Rolling my eyes, I turned, heading for my room. Just as I thought the day couldn't get crazier, it said 'hold my beer.'
"Olivia!" Vincent yelled, fastening his pace to catch up to me.
Ignoring him, I walked faster, eager to get to my room and shut him out before he could meet up. I didn't have much luck.
"Olivia!" he shouted again, "can't you hear me calling you?"
"I have nothing to say to you," I answered, not bothering to spare him a glance.
Putting in my key, I unlocked the door hurriedly, stepped in and was about the shut it when his palm held it open, sticking his foot in so I couldn't get it shut.
"What do you think you're doing Vincent? Were you following me?"
"I'm not here to entertain stupid questions, Liv. I need to talk to you."
I shoved the door lightly. "Like I said, I have nothing–"
Before I could complete the statement, he shoved the door wide open with his full strength, barging into the room like a mad man.
What the hell. "Vincent! Get out!"
"No, I'm not going anywhere. Not until I get an explanation for what this is." He held up some papers, waving them around infuriatingly.
I scoffed, folding my arms. "Well that was fast, I see you got the divorce papers."
He closed the gap between us, leaving little to no space. "Are you out of your mind, Liv? Whays the meaning of this? And what, on the grounds of infidelity?"
"You cheated on me, Vincent!" I exhaled, running a hand through my hair. "And not just with anyone, with my friend. What were you expecting?"
"You had no right to–"
"I had no right?" I cut him off, my jaw open in disbelief. "Oh my God, what exactly do you take me for? You wanted me to sit there, crying and sobbing like a pathetic fool, while you throw me out of the house and take all I helped you build?"
His face twisted in anger. "All you helped me build? So what, you want a thank you? You want a share of all my assets, what, fifty-fifty?"
I stepped back, creating some space between him. "And why not? It was my sweat and tears that went into all of that. I met you with nothing, and I tired endlessly to make sure we have every single thing there is now. What do I get for it? You cheat on me with my friend and get her pregnant!"
Turning around quickly, I dabbed at the tears that gathered in my eyes, not wanting him to see my break down.
He walked towards me, then grabbed me by the shoulders, spinning me around so hard it hurt.
"Sorry to break it to you, Liv. But that's not gonna happen. You trying to guilt trip or make me bad isn't going to work."
"When did you become so heartless, Vincent? I can't recognise you anymore, you're not the soft, kind hearted man I met and fell in love with. Why–" my voice broke, my heart heavy with pain as I started at the emotionless eyes of a man I'd once been in love with.
He chuckled, evil and dark. "I don't care about any of that. All I need you to do is to go back to whichever court you filed this, and cancel it. Simple."
"That's not going to happen," I replied, staring straight at him.
He blinked, taken aback a little at the firmness of my words. "What did you say?"
"You heard me," I maintained, my resolve strengthening.
"I'm not asking you, Liv. I'm telling you. And if you don't want me to make sure you spend the rest of your life in misery, you'll do as I say."
A smile crawled across my face. "Wake up, Vincent! I don't have to listen to a word you say because you're not my husband anymore. You stopped being that the minute I caught you in bed with Alice, and I certainly don't have any respect left for a man as wicked and ungrateful–"
WHAM!
My eyes blurred, my cheeks hurting immediately as I felt his palm land on my face, hot and stinging.
Vincent slapped me. In all the years we'd been married, it had been a lot of things but he'd never gotten physical with me. Not until now.
I brushed my hair away from my face slowly, bringing up my eyes painfully to look at the face of the man I no longer recognised.
"You, you slapped me?"
His expression cracked, the sign of initial regret transforming back into his arrogance and fury.
"I told you. Go withdraw the divorce papers. It's going to be on my terms. And if you don't, I'm going make sure it's a lot worse for you than this. I have money and lawyers, and I'm going to fight you with all I have. Don't push me, Olivia."
I didn't say a word for a moment, staring blindly in the air before I finally looked at him.
"Get out," I said, my tone flat and steady.
"Withdraw the–"
"GET OUT OF MY ROOM!" I screamed, "or I'll call the cops."
He glared at me in surprise, then walked out, huffing and puffing. I shut the door loudly behind me, only one thought in my mind.
I rummaged through my purse, annoyed at the process before emptying the contents on my bed. Spotting the card, I picked it up and dialed the number on it into my phone.
He picked at the first ring.
"Hello."
"Christian, it's Olivia. I changed my mind. You wanted a wife right? You've got one."
