27 Fiona got dressed, finger-combed her hair, then joined Shaun. When she stepped off the last stair, she saw he had lit the candles on the table, refilled her wineglass, and had a casserole dish set next to their plates. Instead of allowing the panic, the unease of the intimacy they had just shared to settle inside her, she chose to enjoy his company, and his cooking. “This looks and smells incredible,” Fiona said, peering at the casserole in front of her. “Hopefully it will taste that way, too.” He picked up the spatula. “Do you mind?” She shook her head and held her plate closer to the dish.
