Chapter 4: The Shadows Move
Lola walked out of BLP Holdings with a storm brewing in her chest. The pieces were coming together, but they formed a picture she didn’t like. Financial fraud. A woman who knew too much. A clean, professional murder.
Whoever was behind this wasn’t just powerful. They were careful.
She reached her car and slid into the driver’s seat, mind racing. Tunde Bassey believed he was next. If he was right, then she was running out of time.
As she pulled out onto the road, she checked her rearview mirror. That was when she noticed it—
A black SUV.
It had been parked across the street when she arrived. Now, it pulled out a few cars behind her, moving at a steady pace. Not too close, not too far.
A tail.
Lola’s fingers curled around the steering wheel, her pulse steady. She took a left onto Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, weaving through traffic. The SUV followed.
She tested them, making another turn onto a smaller road. They stayed with her.
So, it begins.
Lola exhaled, then did something bold. At the next red light, she slammed her brakes, forcing the cars behind her to stop abruptly. She flung her door open, stepped out, and locked eyes with the SUV behind her.
Its windows were tinted. No movement. No reaction.
Lola took a slow step forward, hand resting on her gun. A challenge.
For a second, there was silence. Then, as the light turned green, the SUV swerved into the next lane and sped off.
Lola watched it disappear into traffic.
Whoever they were, they wanted her to know they were watching.
She got back in her car, gripping the steering wheel.
The message was clear.
Back off.
But if they thought fear would stop her, they had made a mistake.
Now, she was more determined than ever.
