Niccolo's PoV
''Let's pack our things up.'' Loke said. He must've noticed my disappointment...
''Kris, can you get the map?'' I asked. It'll be dark soon... Going down at these hours is not safe.
''What would you need it for?''
''We'll go for a shortcut. It's almost dark. Plus, our water supply was scattered right when we got back.''
''So we're going to the waterfall?'' Jean easily read my mind.
''Yes, we will. Now get ready your backs. This will be a long journey.''
5 in the afternoon and our hike starts. The darkness started to lurk, slowing our journey towards the waterfall.
''Why didn't we get down with the path we had when we got up?'' Levy asked.
Yes, of course, it's her first time here to hike.
''The path we used when we got up is dangerous when going down, an avalanche might surprise us from behind. Just like what happened 13 years ago.'' Dean informed her why.
''So...we will walk this path.'' I said. s**t. This is longer than I thought.
With a hurricane coming up, my brain couldn't be calm.
The wind grew stronger as we walked deeper in the forest.
''What time is it now, Mika?'' I asked.
''7 in the evening.''
''What?''
7? Then the hurricane should've land by now.
''7 what?''
''7:56, Nic.'' Jean added. ''Niccolo, there's somethings fishy here. It is almost 3 and a half hours now after that warning was said. Our path seems longer than our last hike.''
''Maybe because it's night time that the path seems longer.''
''Nic, use your head. It's planned. Give me that map. SEE?!...'' she pointed something on it.
''The true map had the path walking towards the east. Now, we're completely walking towards south.'' She said and grabbed a compass.
''Indeed...'' Levy said. ''But...how?'' she asked.
''Someone is behind in all of this.'' I said. The thought of them ruining this special day made my anger rose higher than it should be. ''If this is what they want, we will give it to them. My revenge is waiting at the end.'' I said.
As the clock hit 8:34, the waterfall became visbile to us.
''WOAHHHHH!!!'' Levy said in awe.
''Pretty, right?'' Mika said as he grabbed her camera.
''Now, let's replenish our water bottles. we still have a long way to go.''
''How did we end up here when we are heading south with this fake map.'' Jean suddenly said.
I watched the waterfall. Hmmm...
There's something wrong with this fall...
''It's much shorter than the true waterfall.'' I said.
''What?''
''Yes. You heard it right. It is shorter than but a bit wider than the fall we mostly visit.''
''WOOAHHH...Your eyes is good, Niccolo...'' Kris compliments.
''Hmmmm..it does have a difference in size, Niccolo.'' l
''How the f**k did you notice that?'' Levy ask.
''Anyone can tell when you visit the true waterfall often. Let's just refill our water bottles.''
''Hai.'' they said.
I looked at the fall. It shone brighter as the moon lit it up from above. ''Pretty.'' was all I can say.
Refilling our battles took half an hour for us to complete.
Now its time for us to continue our journey to go down.
''Guys, it's already 9 in the evening. Let's now take shelter in the forest and we will be heading out just after the sun rises. That way we can go home earlier.''
''I like the sound of that. But where should we build our camp?'' Jean ask.
''Yeah. I would really love to escape this creepy trees. Fells like they've been burnt ages ago.''
''Your right about that. The air has burnt smell. Just when we got here.''
''Our camp should be...hmmm...it's not good to camp here, in the middle of this eerie place.'' I said.
''Let's move a few meters.''
We then walk upwards, hoping to see a human trail.
Five minutes passed and not a single trail.
15 minutes of walk and not a single footprints of human nor animal can be seen. Just us and these huge freaking redwood trees.
''Who would've thought that redwood tree will still exist here.'' Jean said.
''Bet this was hidden from public.''
''Aren't redwoods so tall?'' Levi ask. ''Why are these trees just about 15 meters tall?''
''They are still growing. The government will be trimming this trees once they discover it. It's a good producer of strong logs.'' Dean said and added. ''This must be the second place of redwood trees other than California.''
''It's a path!'' Mika suddenly exclaimed.
''There's a path here.'' she said.
''That's good news. A campsite must near here.''
''There's people camping here?''
''Yeah. Ages ago, though.''
''Huh?'' All of them said. I walk the path.
''What do you mean by that?'' Loke grabbed my hand as I am a few meters away from them.
''It's obvious though. Grass is starting to grow in these path. Maybe a few months or even a year. Someone or some group must've been lost here. Hoped they got out here.'' I said and continued to walk.
The other members followed me behind.
''Niccolo...Are you mad?'' Mika asked.
''Who wouldn't be? Today was supposedly a fun day but here we are...struggling to even get out...and a fucker put us in this stupid situation.''
''I'm also furious about this thing. It's not a funny prank.''
I look back.
When did Levi get so touchy with Kris?
''What happened to those two?'' I asked Mika.
''Dunno. They just started to be lovey-dovey since yesterday.''
''Are they dating?''
''I'll asking them later.''
''Why am I the only single here?'' I ask.
''Yeah. Dean and Jean have internet lovers or so they say.''
''Ah. Weird though. Why would they trust internet love? I'm more curious about Jean. She's smart. But I think geniuses can be dumb towards romance.''
''That really came from you?'' Loke joined.
''I'm sorry. What?'' I ask. What does he mean by that?
''Nah. Let's copntinue our endless walk.''
''Ah. Why did we follow this path? We shouldn't have foll---''
I paused. Stopped in my tracks, I couldn't bring myself to not be shock.
''The f**k are you doing, Niccolo?'' Dean ask.
''Hey, I'm not seeing things, right?''
''What are you tal---''
''The f**k is that?'' Kris added.
''A burned down building?'' Jean commented.
''This might be a good place to stay.'' I exclaimed. I just got over with the creepiness when I saw the building.
''The heck, Nic? It's a creepy and eerie building.'' Mika said.
''Let's get over with how scary this thing are. We need a safe place to stay for the night. We cannot just stay outside in this eerie forest.''
''Yeah. It's should be 'safer' to stay inside.''
''It's already ten and we haven't had our dinner.''
''Ah. Dinner is important.'' Kris said.
Eh. When did he ever care about dinner?
We got inside the building...and it's smelly as hell.
''The heck with these smell?'' Dean complaints.
''This is what we have for the night. And it'll save us time in setting up our tents.''
***BONUS***
''Hey, who taught you to set a tent?''
''Hmmm...we just learn it by watching a video.''
''Here is how to set a tent...''
Step One:
Lay a tarp down before putting up your tent. When setting up your tent, it's important to put a barrier in between the ground and the bottom of your tent to protect it from gathering moisture. A good-quality plastic or vinyl tarp should accompany any tent.
Step Two:Lay out and account for all the components of your tent. Most modern tents are made of lightweight nylon, all-in-one tent poles, and stakes, while older army-style tents often feature more complicated poles and cloth coverings. At the very least, you'll need the tent itself and the poles, and the method of putting them is generally the same.
