“She might pull through yet,” another voice said, and I saw Tarrin joining us. He also had a plate of food, but when he sat, he just set it on the ground. “Lorne is a good healer.”
Lori shook her head. “Lorne said he would come and get me when it was time to say goodbye. If he’s not giving me any hope, you shouldn’t either.”
My eyes locked with Tarrin’s, and his lips quirked into the smallest of smiles. He wasn’t the type that smiled easily, so it lifted my heart just a little.
“I can’t help it. You all know how much of an optimist I am.”
The entire group at the fire burst into laughter at the words, and I couldn’t help but join in. I hadn’t known him long, and he wasn’t easy to get to know, but optimist wasn’t the word I would use for him.
