I barely noticed someone picking me up. I wanted to curl into the warmth of the chest, but it felt wrong, and something in the back of my mind told me it wasn’t Brennan holding me. That thought made me hold myself stiff as they carried me. I had lost track of what was going on. There was still a murmur of voices around me. I knew they were talking about me. I didn’t know what they were saying. There was very little in me that cared. The last thing I wanted was to delay the journey again.
